Random Lag and FPS drops

Ever since 5.4 I have been having issues where the game lags for a second or so, the FPS drops and it makes it rather annoying trying to do content.

I'm not sure if this is a game issue or a windows issue but I haven't had this happen in any other games that i play.

I am running:

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-9600K CPU @ 3.70GHz 3.70 GHz
Installed RAM 16.0 GB
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Edition Windows 10 Home
Version 20H2
Installed on ‎4/‎11/‎2020

Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.551.0
with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070

I have checked all drivers and windows updates and also tried rolling back but nothing seems to fix the issue.

Yes, I usually use boederless windows but it happens in full screen and windowed as well.

This is really getting frustrating, I am still having the same problem even after a clean install.

Does this issue happen when Final Fantasy XIV is the only program running? Where in game does the issue occur? Also, could you provide a system report? Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.'

Hi, thank you for responding to my post.

The issue happens when I only have FFXIV open/running. It is happening in cut scenes, as well as in combat and just regular game play. It happens regardless of whether I am in windowed/borderless windowed/full screen. I have checked all drivers and updates and all are current. I have also done a clean install which still has not alleviated the issue. I have turned Vsync on and off and limited the FPS as well as tried with no FPS limit. Short of formatting my new rig which is less than 4 months old I have no clue what is going on. I also play WoW and this has never happened while playing that. Further more this has only become an issue since the 5.4 update. I have no idea what to do.

Good morning and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

Does this happen during times of high player congestion? We would also like to recommend several other troubleshooting steps:

1) Make sure that your hardware is not overheating and remove any overclocks you may have on your graphics card or processor. Please check that any fans or vents are clear of blocks.
2) Disable any additional programs that could cause interference with the game itself including chat programs. Also, remove any custom configurations made using graphics driver-level programs
3) Remove any mods or injectors from the game or system
4) Turn off Fullscreen Optimizations. Find the executable file for the game (normally found in the install folder), right-click it and select 'Properties'. Under the 'Compatibility' tab, check the box labeled 'Disable Fullscreen Optimizations', then click 'Apply'.
5) Remove any unnecessary USB or audio devices (controllers, headphones, flash drives etc.)
6) Update and reinstall the drivers for your graphics card
7) Perform a clean boot by opening the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything
