Game Crashes Computer

This problem seems to be shortly after I log into the game. For the most part is stable otherwise. The problem is a few minutes after logging in I'll get a noise repeat then the computer locks sloid, have to power down and power back on. Normally after that it doesn't happen again for the entire night so can't be overheating.
At first I just figured I needed a new computer because my hardware is getting older, but then a friend told me the exact same thing was happening to them more regularly.
Here is my hardware list:
AMD FX-8350 eight core CPU 4.3Ghz
16GB of RAM
Video is GeForce 1080Ti

I found it interesting that my friend with the same issue also had a GeForce 1080

What have you tried so far to alleviate the issue? Are you able to provide a system report? Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.'
