So, a friend of mine is going to be starting the game and I told her she can play up to Heavensward for free with the Free Trial. She's telling me her account shows 30 days of game time. After some googling, I see that the Starter Edition comes with 30 days of game time.

My question is, will she be charged that game time while she's playing through ARR and HW or will that time only be charged after she starts Stormblood if she decides to play that long? Thanks in advance.

Free trials do not purchase the game. They download the client from the trial page.
If she bought the game, she is no longer on the trial.

Sounds like she has purchased the starter edition, which is not the free trial. Yes she will be charged when the free time is up.

When you log into a free trial account in a web browser it should look like this:

You cannot revert back to the free trial after you've purchased the game or game time. Once her 30 days are up she'll need to maintain a subscription to continue playing.

This is because the free trial has certain social/trade restrictions that once bypassed can't be undone.
