Some adds are fine... but look for example @ Myrmidion Princess fight: it's all about "full attack!". No crowd control (Lullaby, etc) needed/possible, just DAMAGE & heal. Meh
    ~EXP penalty for Death
~Level capped instances (If you want to do content at a lower level you can't blam through it with a 50)
~More Job utility outside of combat (Whm teles, Blm Warp II, Thf treasure Hunter, ect)
~Auction Houses and centralized markets which can be access from a primary city (We don't quite have a Jueno but we will soon I imagine)
    Green things would be nice.

We need strategy, not confusion. For example: Kirin or Odin (FFXI, lv75 era) vs Myrmidion Princess. All have adds. Fights are totally different: Myrmidion one is pure spam of damage and heals.

We need content which evolves in "steps". In FFXI, for example, in Limbus you had to clear different istances and farm different things before getting to the final boss area. Same thing for Salvage, Sky/Sea, etc. Don't get me wrong: current raids are nice, but SHOULDN'T BE THE ONLY TYPE OF ENDGAME CONTENT and NOT THE MAIN ONE.

Also: what's this speedrun trend? Always doing raids with hurry... meh. This is not a platform game. Put additional chest/reward by killing an optional hard boss, instead.

Also, AT FIRST I was against instant equip switching during fights also in FFXIV: but now... with current system (change equip only if in passive mode and in a very slow way), you can only make better gears with every patch, but not situational/macro ones. This means every 1-2 patches almost every previous gear gets outdated. It's all about "better stats" in FFXIV. What about optimization? I want to macro Enhancement Magic+ and Vitality+ when buffing with my WHM (example), hell!

He doesn't understand economics, most people don't. He doesn't know that profit = money acquired AFTER you pay off bills for development, utilities and pay your employees.

No, in other words, 500k alone is not much of a profit at 12 per tick when you factor in real world things like tax, paying employees, paying bills etc.

This bickering over how successful either game is/was is pointless. People play what they like, and what their friends are playing. Anyone not interested in FFXIV now, isn't likely to be interested when 2.0 is released. Reviewers have already tarnished XIV's reputation, and they affect a majority of players' choices when selecting a game to play, let alone a long term commitment like an MMO. Both games have their pros and cons, like all games do. We just have to decide which game is move favorable for our liking. Whether or not XIV becomes more like XI, people will play what they choose to. I love both games, but personally I feel Aby ruined XI, and it's time for a change. Yes, I'd like to see a few changes in XIV as well, and that's why I'll continue to wait on the devs to make the right choices, I mean... Afterall, we're all still playing XIV to date right?

FFXI may have been well enough off financially but have you ever stopped and wondered why it didn't become the standard of MMOs? Why hardly any of its systems are being borrowed by other games? Why there aren't more games like it? Why MMOs seem to be going in the exact opposite direction in terms of masochistic timesinks?

As I've said before, it was good for its time but that time is long gone. If they re-made FFXI with better graphics in this day and age, it would fall flat on its face. It would have the FFXI-purist fanbase but that's about it, and clearly even SE thinks that's not that much since FFXIV has/still is being designed for a more casual audience.

Because it based on Everquest 1, which is now old school and more fun to see through the rose colored glasses of nostalgia.

Lol I cannot believe how biased the OP's two choices are written. He basically is giving us a choice between 'challenging content' or '.001% drop rates'. Of course the first post will receive more likes when it is written that way. Unless you can form a poll that isn't so clearly one-sided, there is no point in even looking at the results. Fail post.

There is no standard to MMO's, games evolve. Final Fantasy is a title that is solely based upon change from the traditional. People will play what they/their friends play. Regardless of if it's beneficial to the company, if anything, that's the last thing on the consumers mind :P People still played PSU until Sega pulled the plug, just saying. We just have to all learn that we pay for what they provide us, and if we don't like it, then we no longer pay and move on. They listen to us to gain insight as to what we want for the purpose of attracting a larger consumer base. But once again, the bottom line is that we will all play what we want to, so accept all changes implemented or not. FFXIV, FFXI, FFXI-2 or whatever else the games transforms into. It is what it is, deal with it.
