High Jump being movement is not very good at all.

You know it's bad out here when this is more or less my first forum post.

Savage tier dragoon mains, we must speak. You and I both know you've accidentally popped high jump to help with a cloud during e9s panels and found out the hard way it in fact, kills everyone in a straight line ahead of you. You've also probably tried to use high jump during e10s and found out once again that you cannot at all cast high jump if you are under bind status. Which just so happens to also be something that happens during e11s, but with RNG, since you're not always the one targeted with bound by faith.

Hell, i know for a fact we've all unanimously tried to use high jump to greed when we've moved out during an aoe, and have it snapshotted despite us clearly being outside of the circle.

It hurts out here, we all know it hurts. I have been at these fights almost since patch launch, and although i adore my job, i can't help but feel massively inconvenienced every time i play it and something like this happens. Spineshatter, Dragonfire and Stardiver all make sense to be abilities that move your characters hitbox because those are gap closers, and take you from point A to point B. It feels relatively fair and consistent as a punishment to time your things right for that, especially as they're mostly for damage and aren't tied to your eye system. But high jump physically moving your character in a raid tier where you need your 30 second cycles to be on point, and where movement matters the most, feels outdated, like an oversight, and honestly kind of unacceptable. I really need square to buckle down and change how that ability in particular functions, and i wanted some opinions on this.

This has always bugged me about DRG.
The signature Jump ability has always given the Dragoon some kind of evasion, flat out making them untargetable for a turn maybe, but in XIV, it puts them more in harms way.

It feels especially ridiculous to me, because if the devs wanted to argue that some jobs shouldn't have evasion over other jobs, then just have it keep you in the place where you casted it to begin with since you can't move anyway.

Lol thats funny, this actually just happened to me yesterday during a e10s fight I joined; made me catch a damage down. Eh, because I know that happens I kinda prepare and work around it. Then again, it takes alot to bother me

Everybody gangsta until the Dragoon causes the wipe on Perfect Alexander because he used High Jump / Dragonsong Dive (LB3) at the worst time during enrage.

I mean, yeah, jobs get inconvenienced by mechanics.. Welcome to FFXIV. It's not unique to dragoon at all so I'm not really sure what point you're trying to make.

i mean considering it's a thread about dragoon qol specifically i'm not really sure what the point of bringing in "All jobs are inconvenienced by mechanics" is, the point is some are way more inconvenienced than others in some aspects, and there's genuinely no reason jump should (as one of many examples) kill my panel partner during e9s on the chance that they can't kill their cloud, or even just on an accidental mistarget. It's not a matter of "jobs inconvenienced", it's a matter of outdated battle system mechanics still getting in the way of making these jobs feel as good as they should be.

the solution would be keeping the other jumps as gap closers as is to make it punishing if you try to greed, not punish you for trying to keep your central mechanic on somewhat proper rotation and getting killed by an aoe circle because server tick dictated you should die to it, on a move that really has no reason to send you forward towards the boss to begin with. you could maybe argue "oh you can sort of dodge some aoes with old jump" but new jump is a split second and still shifts your hitbox. You already have to deal with end lag if it comes up while you have to move during a mechanic as is, so it's twice as punishing that it moves you whatsoever in addition.

So like. I dunno, fam. We're supposed to be reporting feedback for things that don't feel good, the point is that does not feel good. Big difference between "as a red mage i can't melee just yet because the boss is doing a quick mechanic" or "i may have to sac my dps and clemency for the sake of prog" versus "why does bind not let me use four of my ogcds, one of which is tied to my central mechanic"
