If SE actually made healers healbots, they'd never be able to complete the MSQ. You can't heal story bosses to death.Something I don't think the healbots realize is that if Enix ever actually achieved the impossible goal of pure healing, where a healer couldn't dps because they needed to be healing for the entire fight regardless of gear or skill, they'd crumple and fall flat.
The typical healbot has maybe 60% uptime pressing their buttons and usually neglects key parts of their toolkit in favor of spamming Medica II, Regen, AspHelios or Succor endlessly. If fights started demanding 90%+ uptime and full efficient use of the healing toolkit, they simply wouldn't be able to do it. They tend to panic heal in high damage situations, rather than calmly combine oGCD's and burst heals and would empty on resources in the first minute or two. A playstyle where all healers always needed to be healing would be significantly more difficult than healing and doing decent dps under the current game design.
It's nice to say "I play healer to heal" as an excuse to avoid having to learn the full toolkit, but in reality optimal healing isn't the goal at all then.
Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]
They actually could, if they gave you NPCs you had to keep alive. Which, ironically, would play into the healer fantasy way more than our quests do now. With that said, I don't think they should go the healbot way as you've effectively traded Glare spam for Cure II spam. I do, however, think there needs to be a lot more emphasis on healing. Like I said elsewhere, two healers are literally only brought because of one or two mechanics forcing them to be there. Nearly every Savage fight could be solo healed. That alone speaks volumes to how poorly thought out healing is in this game.

Honestly, healbotting will never be viable unless they just flat out delete any dps buttons healers have in instanced content.
Even if the boss is constantly dishing out 100,000 damage every auto there's still going to be downtime to do damage, even if it's just slapping the boss with a damage spell as soon as they become targetable after a phase change, or having the paladin pop hallowed just to give the healer 10 seconds to start dpsing.
SE should just move on from trying to get healers to focus on healing more and shift their focus to making healers actually fun an engaging to play again, regardless of skill level

They can be stubborn sometimes. With Eureka, the "NM train" that came out of Anemos was not their intended design, so they took it away in Pagos. After many complaints, and after participation dropped quickly... they put it back into Eureka's design permanently. Hopefully they learned a valuable lesson over what they did to healers with Shadowbringers and will acknowledge that the player base wants things a certain way, therefore they would be happier.
No better example of this is their refusal to address Monk's issues; going so far as to say they were most proud of Monk going into Shadowbringers. This, despite ignoring practically all the feedback offered. It took the community completely abandoning the job for them to finally accept their design wasn't working. They can be stubborn sometimes. Yeah, another good example and definitely a better one than mine.No better example of this is their refusal to address Monk's issues; going so far as to say they were most proud of Monk going into Shadowbringers. Hmm... I don't remember them saying they were proud of monk, only that they admitted 4.0 was a failure. Since its took 5 years for monk to be in an acceptable state that doesn't give much hopeNo better example of this is their refusal to address Monk's issues; going so far as to say they were most proud of Monk going into Shadowbringers. Sch and Astro were all but abandoned for most of this expansion. Astro's picked up a smidge more when they fixed the controller issues but the majority in DF and PF are still whm's
Because unlike SCH (and arguably AST) when going from SB to ShB WHM has actually seen an improvement, this is probably only part of the reason though. Both SCH & AST have a steeper initial learning curve simply due to their design, WHM is relatively straight forward until you get into optimization so WHM is most likely the go-to healer for most people who just want "something to heal".
"I am going to hug you!"
"Foolish Child of Light, you think me weak enough that my resolve will weaken in the face of 'the strength of kindness'? I wield powers beyond your comprehension, on a scale not even your precious Mothercrystal can h— ow! OW! Hey! Those are my ribs! What in the seven hells are you doing? You said you were going to hug me!"
"Yep! I'm going to hug you... tO DeAtH."
"...help..."
Maybe if we start doing a similar thing, they will hear our pleas. Time to run those Daily Roulettes with 3 friends and healer being replaced by a red mage i guess. No better example of this is their refusal to address Monk's issues; going so far as to say they were most proud of Monk going into Shadowbringers.
