Once again, I am referring to level 50s playing in a level 50 party. I am well aware that people can reach 50 in literally no time at all, but that doesn't excuse the fact that they want to wear dumpster gear to level 50 raid events.

Hmm two day's ago, i organized an ifrit run with mixed classes. We had someone, who was well equipped, that refused to listen to common sense(tank), and it got all of us killed a couple of times. Once he was gone, we got someone else, who performed better, even though he wasn't perfectly tuned for the task.. tadaa , wins. A few days before that, i had a group with an overtuned mage, who kept pestering about more or less irrelevent details , and ultimately got everyone's motivation down , making the party disband, even though we were performing well. Soo... no thank you. I prefer playing with laid back people , and if it means that they're too laid back to have ultimate equipment for every class they have, then so be it. Weird enough, parties endure longer with cool people, and ultimately harvest more wins, because everyone is willing to work and learn as a team , and isn't frustrated/ stressed as much.. which in return has a positive effect on performance.
You are exaggerating a bit with the level 1 equip example ^^.

In old pre-abyssea FFXI gear upgrades mattered because you took a long time to level up, and used the heck out of that gear until the next gear upgrade.

I also believe that materia has something to do with it, since almost every piece of craftable equipment feels lacking without materia attached to it, I'd go as far as saying that most things feel like just a defense upgrade if it doesn't have a materia or two attached to it. (basically upgrading gear is not satisfying, you take no pride in a tunic, even if its +1 unless there is 2 materias attached to it at least, and even so, you don't keep that piece on you long enough to actually bother getting 1 materia on it, let alone two)

(TL;DR): Nothing is satisfying without 2 materias on it and you level too fast to care enough to try sticking any to your gear.
I understand where you are coming from with materia becoming the new standard of "good gear", but I'm asking why people just refuse to wear the bare minimum. Would you expect people to be happy if you went to their ifrit run wearing no accessories, and half of your gear is broken? Maybe people are having their levels handed to them so easily that they expect their rank 50 gear to be the same. I just don't know why everyone I group with just seems to not give a damn what so ever.

No I'm not exaggerating. And for the final time, I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT THE BEST OF THE BEST GEAR! Is everyone on this forum dyslexic?

    Umm.. neither was i.
Maybe saying "ultimate gear" suggested a full darklight set, but i was more thinking of full set of stat bonus rings , bracelet, and maximum rank armor boosting the right stats, all availible on the markets for maybe 300k in total

So if you made a pick up group for something and one of your members is wearing nothing in his accessories slots, and his other gear is out of date, or even non existant, you would view him as a either A: deadweight, or B: a badass? I understand that a group of friends who know how to communicate with one another can achieve feats even against many odds, but I'm refering to the general populace. Put yourself in my place. I'm trying to do an ifrit run and nobody is on in my LS. I need to pug him if I want to do ifrit at all that night. I get people in my group that if it wasn't for AF gear being in the game it would seem that they were walking out of a level one zone with their starter gear on. How would you feel being in a group with a bunch of individuals that don't even care to even try one bit? You want to be there, you want to kill the boss, you want to feel like you accomplished something with your time, and you are only hindered by individuals that don't care, and just want free gear thrown their way, with little to no effort put in at all by them.

Ok i will take Ifrit as an Exemple. For me gear doesnt matter at all. As long as the players KNOW his job everything should go fine.

For Ifrit in /shout i tend to give a 2 run of practice. If its a wipped its not because of the gear but because pepeol simply dont know where to stand and what to do. Everything in this game is pretty much EZ and its not a matter of what your gear are but if pepeol know what they have to do and do it right. Whats buggin me more instead of a guy with no ring or dated ring..is a guy who run into the whm with or run the path of other players with the crack...so after 2 wiped im out of the PT. Im not going to waste a full night with pepeol who doesnt know how to stand in Ifrit.

Hello? You there? Anyone? Anything up there? Nothing in that peanut brain? I hope Chris Benoit comes back from the dead and puts you in a figure four leglock, then proceeds to spinebuster you, then finishes you off with the crippler cross face until you smother.

Same mentality, same issue, if I'm not gonna put "good" gear in a slot i might as well keep it empty since crap gear is just that, and its not worth the hassle of suffering through wards lag to get.

Besides you'll out grow the gear you just bought a few hours later so why even bother at all?

    (Metaphorically speaking)

    To elaborate.

In an FFXI situation, a lv40 will spend weeks getting to 50 and that made the gear upgrade that came @40 something important and for lets say a MNK there were pieces of gear that were vital to have and helped greatly with your performance like:

Jujitsu Gi: Looked cool, added important accuracy that you desperately needed.
Brown Belt: +8% haste, and a status symbol that you moved up from a purple belt and that much haste with H2H made a noticable difference.
Ochidou's Kote: +20 atk there were no gloves for a MNK that added that much ATK and they even looked badass, everybody strives to get them.
Sniper's Ring: +5 acc each, before it all you had was basic stat rings, and accuracy really mattered at that time before accuracy food.
Peacock Charm: +10 accuracy, and nothing else had that much acc on it at that level (33)

You wanted THAT gear and you strived to get it and busted your ass to obtained it and it was satisfying when you did and then you proceeded to use it for weeks and weeks and some you kept using even past 50.

On FFXIV you just got anything, nothing matters, get just a full suit of whatever if you really care and stick a materia on it and call it a day.

Assuming you care enough to bother getting gear you'll out level tomorrow and replace with AF.
