As far as the dragon and the ship... yea.. it was an explosion... I was being funny... Because you have to admit, he was moving slow as crap.....

    Re: the guildleve itself...
what you guys are saying is definitely possible
But.... the Echo is used on a person.... not a guildleve plate

The aetherytes and aetherial gates function as a key, and by having them resonate when you complete your duties it is possible to open an aetherial node to return with. This is what the animations above your head signifies.

This is standard amongst adventurers, so even for duties within city-states that don’t utilize aetherial nodes, the same thing takes place when the leve begins. This is a kind of “wish” that you will complete your duties safely and return.

As a matter of fact, aetherytes are referred to as the manifestation of the planet’s lifeblood, which is made up of aether. Due to this, leve plates are also made of crystal which makes it easy for the two to resonate.
And this makes me think guildleves are a wish for a safe return on duties that need to be completed...
Implying that guildleves are not a past tense activity.... The nature of guildleves is work that needs to be done... guild tasks.. not reliving some special battle... that doesn't seem to embody the pragmatic nature of guild quests

Also, the guildhall and gear worn were unlike any we've ever seen...
Was that from Ishgard? Ishgard definitely doesn't employ adventurers now...
But they did 10 to 15 years ago
Or was that some guild hall in Mor Dhona... It makes sense that there would have been a city in Mor Dhona.... a city that wouldn't be there now....

I think they went for the aetherytes. Just like you said, the Shroud is not much than a wood with nothing of immediate value in it. There is also the crystal tower that is buried below the lake somewhere. You can see a lot of glowing crystals when they show an overview of silvertear falls and you can see they're really glowing like aetherytes in the scene where the ship is crashing.

I thought it was Ul'dah at first but nope, no aetheryte in the Quicksand and there are some greenish glass windows in the background like in Caroline's Canopy. I kinda doubt it's Ishgard and it can't be Ala Mhigo since it was conquered at that time already. So it might be some city that was planned to be implemented but never actually made it into the game

I do think the cutscene took part in present time, it doesn't fit the other way because the event in mor dhona took place 10-15 years ago (as told by Eric, the MNK npc). And Ishgard closed her gates around the same time...

I thought Ishgard was always kinda tight regarding people entering, but I'm sure the echo has something to do with Aether-y energy and such. We don't know the details exactly, yet. However, we do know that the guy in the opening cutscene never moved from his seat. I'm more inclined to believe that he really did see the past, it's the only thing that makes sense.

One thing SE does do well is keeping all the story facts straight, so I'm sure(I hope...) they wouldn't leave glaring holes in their story like that.

You don't think it's possible that the whole event happened in the past?

I think it's possible, but unlikely. Like you said, Adventurer's Guilds were established to combat mercenaries with nothing to do.

That's true,.... and I like your hair....

Its possible that Ishgard broke off communication AFTER the Garleans pulled out... in fact, this battle could be one of the precipitating factors in Ishgard closing it's doors... So a case could be made that the adventurer in the movie IS indeed in Ishgard over 10 years ago

the garleans are battling dragons... just like the Ishgardians... "An enemy of my enemy" and all that
Looks like this battle caused shit to get too real and the Archbishop closed up shop....

I would accept the guildleve/echo story if it wasn't for the fact that its obviously in an unknown adventurers guild....

    I love lore discussions

Thanks for posting this. I don't remember anything about Bozja Citadel though. What happened there?

We don't know.... but *super spoiler warning*

In one of the Gridania company quests (Two Vans are better than one)...
You use the echo on a soldier who has overheard a conversation between Gaius van Baelsar (The Black Armor judge) and Nael van Darnus (The white one)

Gaius is asking if it is wise to go through with Meteor (Bringing down the moon, Dalamud using Allagan Technology) because it will destroy Eorzea and who wants to rule over a continent that has been destroyed when they could easily just invade it.

Then he goes on to remind him that they can't even control where it lands when they bring it down...

Gaius: "Do you not remember? that day ten years ago was an utter failure - a blemish on the legacy of Garlemald. We learned that we could not control where Dalamud would fall. that is why meteor was abandoned.
I do not wish to live to see another Bozja Citadel. If you succeed in bringing down Dalamud, all of Eorzea will cease to be"

In perfect Sephiroth Form.... Nael responds with,
"Yes, but how much brighter the light that shined from the void! Think of it, Gaius! Within that nothingness (Meaning Eorzea after it has been destroyed by Dalamud) lies the root of all creation - pure potential, limitless possibility! This is the wisdom of the Ancients

If that doesn't sound like Sephy, I don't know what does!!!!!
The story underneath is good... really good.
    It has elements of FF6, FF7, FF11 and FF12

Also... being that Bozja Citadel has never been referenced, I am assuming it was in Garlean territory...
