Rare Darklight is rare

Butcher's Crowns and Luminary Tools are also "rare".
But no one complains about the "rarity" of these items because they know exactly what they have to do to obtain them.

So with all the threads complaining about the drop rate of Darklight, I think the issue is not really knowing how close or how far away you are to getting the drops you want.

So to help everyone out and ease their minds I'm going to unofficially give you the Darklight-o-meter drop tool. This way you know just about when you're Darklight will be delivered to you.

When running AV/CC with a static you can count on getting a piece of Darklight after 52 runs. If you pass by 52 runs, know that you should get two by the time you pass 104 runs. If you are running with random parties, then multiply the 50 runs by 1.7 and add your age and lastly subtract the number of classes you have at level 50.

If you are after a body piece that requires a different formula.
With a static you will need 64 to 127 speed runs with a second one dropping before you hit 164 runs. For the random pick up party, your Darklight Body piece will drop in 64 speed runs times your age, divided by the number of Final Fantasy games you have finished and adding the number of Grade 3 Dark Matter in your inventory.

This is a guaranteed darklight drop tool that will alleviate your woes and bring the joy back to farming gear. Do not subscribe to any other false or imitation Darklight drop tools that may be roaming around on the internet.

I think the real problem is that they are called "Darklight". Putting two opposite words like "dark" and "light" together in a name is giving the game an existential crisis and it's not giving out the appropriate amounts of the gear.

This is a social paradox worth many years of long hard studying.

On the other hand, I don't think Darklight drops are that bad. I've seen a pair of Bracers and Breeches drop in the 20 or so speed runs i've done with my linkshell.

I'm starting to think there is some sort of a trigger to increase or force the darklight drop rate from the speed run chests such as No Party Member Deaths perhaps. Can anyone verify this? Or have some of you done 100+ speed runs no deaths and not yet seen a darklight drop?

I patiently await the new Highlander hair options.

Tons is about 4000 pounds which amounts up to 8 or 9 Roegadyns, and that isn't enough to weigh against the thousands of posts complaining about Darklight drops.


If Darklight, Butcher's Crowns, and Luminary Tools were all released at the same time, I'm willing to bet the number of Darklight on the servers would exceed the others. That may even be the case right now even though Butcher's Crowns and Luminary Tools came out 2 patches ago. But relative to the complaints you wouldn't think that would be the case.

Ive seen at least 10-15 drops maybe in over 100 runs.
