Part of why I want for them to wrap up this story so badly in 6.0 is so that we can finally move on to new antagonists after the season 1 storyline is done. I personally think they have done almost all there is to do with Garlemald and they are sadly no longer the more interesting and threatening antagonists and I saw them as back before SB with maybe the exception of Gabranth's group (who might or might not be an allegory for the Byzantines). That being said I do want them to wrap up this storyline in a fitting way and not something unsatisfying like off screen or like FF XV did.

Garlemald/Garleans were never the true antagonists or supposed to be that, if you think about it. Only puppets/tools for the real antagonists.

I'm taking Lore way too seriously. And I'm not sorry about that.

True and yet they are in every expansion. I have more sympathy for the Ascians at this point. lol

They are in every expansion because so far the Ascians are still around-ish and in need of their tools. After all, Emet did quite a number of turning Garlemald into a perfect little toolbox.

The towers look to me as though they're siphoning aether down from somewhere up above...and the moon happens to be the closest celestial body available. Seeing as black magic fundamentally draws aether out of the environment as opposed to the caster, I'd think the Mhachi likely would've experimented with finding ways to give them access to more aether for their spells.

My guess is Fandaniel intends to use what bits of Zodiark's aether he can draw out without breaking the seal to create a weaker, but still horrifyingly powerful incarnation of the primal. Considering that Bahamut didn't even need to come into close contact with Cid's father to temper him, it's possible something similar is going to happen here and simply drawing Zodiark's aether down to Hydaelyn could potentially temper enough thralls (Unassuming beast tribes likely being the prime targets) to allow a physical form to manifest and start going on a rampage.
That's more or less what I'm assuming he's doing as well. Delivering on his promise to Zenos, even if this isn't Zodiark at his apogee.

I don't think they're pulling anything inward as you see aether being pushed away from the towers. So if anything they're pulling something from the ground. As you tend to not indicate things going inward with an outward pulsing.

Don't know if anyone mentioned it yet, but -

"I'm different, you see. From the Ancients who clung to dear life... and from you." From this line it sounds like Fandaniel is already aware the PC is an incomplete reincarnation of Azem.

The Void tower things appear to be transmitting a signal of some kind.

The Void towers could be transmitting, as much as they could be syphoning aether. We'll have to wait for someone to state what they are actually doing. I'm sure they left this vague in the trailer on purpose.

I'm not sure what you mean by "wrap up" on Garlemald. Unless Fandaniel and Zenos nuclear annihilate all of Garlemald, its not going anywhere and will be there after they are gone. The fall of the Empire by ways of military conquest off screen does not perclude it's inclusion in the coming or subsequent expansions.

Just use other Final Fantasy's as evidence, the empires are never taken to the sword. The real villain rises from those empires/corporations/religious institutions as an existential threat to existence and to the planet. Furthermore, the "narrative promise" of the story is a confrontation with Fandaniel and Zenos. Their stories will "wrap up". The Garleans story is far from over.

Another way of looking at it is that without the unified Garlean state in place (probably leading to fragmented states inheriting its former territories), it will actually become easier to visit both Garlemald and Ilsabard, provided there's a reason to do so. With that said, I'm less convinced now that it'll be the 6.0 destination, but there is indeed little precluding it.
