And? Do you want a medal, or maybe a trophy to put in your living room? You can have those made.I have something like 16000 hours in this game on one character, and can pretty much remember every fight in the game (probably because i did them all on release, and over and over for relic grinds and farms.)
Its all about mindset. I enjoy the story quite a bit. I also want to be good at the game. I also raid. None of these things are mutually exclusive, despite you seeming to think they are.
Imagine humble bragging about 16000 hours in ffxiv. Yikes.

It didn't exist when I made my first character. But I wouldn't use it anyway. I play for the story first, gameplay second.
That said, I don't pay your sub. You do whatever brings you the most enjoyment. Lord knows we've got enough going on in the world this year without crapping on each other over a video game.

Nope, the MSQ is one of the most important part of FF14 for me. It has some weak points for sure, but since 4.3, it has been a blast. I can't wait for the Eden conclusion as well.
Why the hell would I pay money during a free trial if I didn't know if I'd like the game or not?

So let me get this right (cause maybe I'm playing the game wrong) you don't want the story? (that's fine it's not for everyone), you don't want to do dungeons? (I guess that's something I can also understand at some level), and you're not here for raids?.. exactly what 'end game content' is it that you enjoy then? There are people that are here for RP and glamours, crafting etc.. but whenever I hear practically anyone talk about end game content, it's raids and dungeons, and gearing your character to get to that point. So it kinda sounds like you're saying 'I love the game but just want to walk around an open world killing random enemies and doing random sidequests' I guess it's your sub, so do whatever you like.
Pretty much because I like walking around doing random stuff, yes. Take it in like another lifestyle and RP-potential is massiveSo let me get this right (cause maybe I'm playing the game wrong) you don't want the story? Just know that you're paying additional money to reduce the amount of content you have available.
FFXIV doesn't have a strong end game, the MSQ, the story IS the bulk of the game.
If you're literally just here to RP, you've chosen an expensive medium.

First off, that's untrue.
They could start the new game + plus feature and tackle the story at their own pace without having content gatekept from them, or merely few all cutscenes at the inn.
Secondly, the implications of buying and using a story skip should be clearly obvious to OP and everyone else, to the point where I question why you even bother mentioning them other than to perhaps be purposefully obtuse.
That is, as is naturally the case for many subjects on this forum; subjective.FFXIV doesn't have a strong end game, the MSQ, the story IS the bulk of the game.
I personally would have to disagree.
While going through the motions of the MSQ had it's upbeat moments, on the whole it overwhelmingly felt like a massive chore.
Due the theme park nature of the game I feel I now have plenty of things to do willingly occupy my time with the MSQ finished.
I will, however concede that all persistent content in this game follows a repetitive structure, but I still find myself having fun.
That's rather rich that you bring up mediums, when video games are by far one of the most expensive venues for storytelling, with one of the most potential for growth as video game stories are still quite lacking. If you're literally just here to RP, you've chosen an expensive medium.
Regardless of my feelings towards story telling in video games one could easily digest all of the plot and characters in this game by merely consulting respective media on the internet.
Doing so wouldn't cost them a dime, while sparing them the need to trek from point a or point b or emoting at various NPCS.
As far as roleplaying goes, few video games feature as vast and as rich of a fantasy setting FF14, and only a handful have as robust of a playerbase and community.
Actually subbing to this game easily provides more practical value for roleplaying than storytelling given the sheer lack of substitutes for the former when you could experience all of the latter for free and for less time.

Of course not. I would be crazy to pay so I can avoid playing the game. The story is nearly the only thing of interest in the game. The "endgame" is just a boring gear grind, and filler content. I could easily imagine paying to avoid that grind.Just curious. I got one as soon as I bought FFXIV on steam. Worth every penny, I love exploring the whole map and doing endgame quests and activities from the get-go.
I have no interest in the story and when I was doing the MSQ on PS4 a few years ago I got sick of it after 10 hours. I put more than that in a day when I recently bought FFXIV and Shadowbringers on Steam with Scenario Skip. I’m enjoying it so much more and love learning new things myself than being handheld for 150+ hours.
Anyone else in a similar boat?

I got into this game for the story (having previously played SW:TOR, another MMO with a story focus) so buying a skip potion would be completely antithetical to me. But I had a friend who got bored around the end of HW and skipped to the start of ShB. That was her choice and I don't fault her for that. So if you're looking for acceptance, I'll just say: you do what you think is best for you, and don't let anyone tell you it was the wrong choice.
