    Please Consider Revisiting Airship/Submarine Content

    Anyone else wish that SE would revisit the concept of Free Company Airships and Submarines? I remember when Company Airships we're first introduced in Heavensward, and apart from the Voyage System that we have now, they were also supposed to play a role in Exploration Content (E.G. Diadem 1.0). However, when SE scrapped The Diadem all together because it was deemed failed content, a big part of the concept behind FC Airships was tossed with it and was never substituted.

    I remember when my FC built our first Airship I believed that it would be the start to some amazing content ahead. That we would actually be able to cruise above the clouds, travel to and explore unique Instanced Areas, and engage in sky raids/sieges. We built our first airship because we thought they would play a big role in exploration content and I hope that in some form it can be again. Even if they don't play a role in this current iteration of FFXIV Exploration content, I would love it if SE revisited the concept of FC Airships and Submarines so that we can interact with them more apart from sending them off in a cutscene every 24 hours... Thoughts?

    My baby shark is Lalafel sized, do do do do do.
    It's a tight fit for a Miqo'te but it would be fun to explore in.



    Mostly though, I wish it was a little less RNG.

    Would love a redesign of the system.

    Something like a treasure cruise style content that draws from the treasure dungeons.

    Start out by building the airship or submarine. Then you gather a party, plan a course and set out.
    Then you're placed on a big map with the airship/sub taking you to the first location.
    During the travel on airship you can get attacked by monsters and you need to defend the airship, if it gets too damaged you'll return to base. Not sure how to do this with subs.
    When you reach a location the objective will be random (multiple monsters, boss monster, puzzle, etc).
    Each location you clear will reward a treasure chest.
    When you return to base the airship/sub will refuel(cooldown timer)

    Honestly, they don't even need to reimagine the whole concept. Just continue on with it. Having that collaborative goal was awesome.

    The more expansive, the better, obviously, but I'll take what I can get.

    I wish they would revisit the content, too. My thoughts are muddled and not well thought out but these are a few things I thought of:

    Since Diadem (1.0) has been removed, I wish they would implement a possible DD/HoH/Maps-type content for submersibles and airships. It could have been a great addition for 5.0/2020 due to the pandemic. I can't say if it would have been easy to implement - as I am not a developer or game designer - but I imagine it would have been simpler than many other aspects of the game. Please correct me if I am mistaken.

    The additional content could be tied in with past content that might not have as much traffic and allow the player to successfully complete it, such as relics. It might be another way to tie in squadrons/trusts. Another would be housing. Instance housing that many people crave. People could search for suitable land - possibly have an encounter like Bismarck and prevent island damage. For each successful subsequent quest, the player's island could grow, which could grant larger housing and facilities. The player granted the reward would have to be decided prior entry or just have a roll like loot.

    Or as mentioned previously, having to map out potential paths on specific maps with monster difficulty increasing every map. It could have had some puzzle/investigative aspects to it that reveal potential pathways - even crafters, like alchemist and leatherworker, could be tied into it for studying varies materials or parchments that give hints on how players could progress. The player could study monster behavior as well by an observation mechanic - diet, hunting behaviour, sleeping patterns, etc. Finding a nest may mean you could acquire a new mount.

    I have other ideas but the feasibility of them would be impossible due to the size of required players and resources required, for example:

    Have an alliance travel by airship/submersible and enter an instance. Two parties are Disciples of War and Magic while the third are gathering classes. The objective would be to research, investigate, create new paths and solve puzzles. Disciples or War and Magic would need to protect the gatherers from any damage otherwise they risk dismissal from the instance. I know this would be more resource heavy, which is why I know this wouldn't be feasible.

    Overall... I just want to explore the world.

    Agree with ships being more 'in the game."

    Having spent a ton of resources recently on a Modified Unkiu-class Bow, and yet again on a similar Stern, I'm quite ready to hop onto the resulting super sub to go to the places it can go, and adventure there. More than that, why not build private residences in giant caves found by top subs, or for that matter on islands found by top airships; places that you must fly to, or gurgle to...? Not a problem that there'd be lots of islands and caves (yeah, and servers...); look at all the exploring to do! Ah well, I suppose it will never happen; but having all these super vessels that we cannot sail on, or fly on, seems like a great idea that never found it's calling.

    Mandatory idea: If y'all S.E. designers ever get around to it, i can recommend one change for subs.. stop bringing back perfectly dry logs or lumber unless part of crafting is changed to match... "restore" lumber and/or "rescue" logs. Very little wood recovered from the sea is at all resistant to dissolution, particularly lumber (Exceptions such as Mahogany, Spanish Cedar, and Teak duly noted).

    Just got back into crafting Airships and Subs and thought back to this post. Considering post 6.X we'll be in new territory it would be nice to see current systems like this expanded upon. Let players tag along on the voyages please!
