    heh..

So it's been a few days. Generally got 30fps and never had any heat issues or instability.... until today (Nov 27 2020). No idea what changed but now it won't even start the application. I go to console (Mac app) and check the logs and find multiple lines of the following:

    Coalition Cache Hit: app<application.com.squareenix.finalfantasyxiv.2337573.2337751(501)> [26578]

I don't pretend to know what that means but it doesn't even open the launcher anymore. Not sure if I messed up the rosetta 2 emulation settings for it when installing other things or if square ran an update and the latest version of the launcher doesn't work with it... either way I'll keep looking around for a solution but I'll be using my windows desktop for FF14 until this is resolved.

have you tried turning it off and on again?

I pulled a typical Mac user and assumed the lack of rebooting my Mac since I installed the game would have nothing to do with these issues. If I were on Windows it'd have been my first instinct...

So I uninstalled it from the Mac and then the issue kept coming back up while I was trying to re-install. I also noticed that a couple other apps started acting unstable so it clicked and I rebooted the Mac.

I'm successfully at the download portion of the re-install. I'll post again if I can get back in game.

Yup.... false alarm. It's working fine. Also update to the frame rate - it is more like a consistent 40+fps unless things get crazy. I haven't tested in a larger raid scenario yet though.

I haven't had a chance to do any additional testing that was requested (like the benchmark) but generally speaking it plays just as well as the MBP 16'' with 32GB RAM and 5500M GPU. Almost as powerful as Macbooks could get and this new M1 chip matches it for half the cost. Obv it isn't as impressive as the PC laptop market but for Apple, this shows a lot of promise.
Now for them to get rid of the kinks by SE providing actual support and Apple maturing the platform.

I typed up a long response and accidentally hit "reply to thread" instead of "post quick reply"... so instead of retyping all the info, I'll just say that I've done cutscenes, dungeons through duty finder, story quests, instanced quests, in and out of instanced areas like FC housing and inns, market board purchasing/sales, uploading/downloading character profile to cloud save, and I'm sure several more things I'm forgetting. All of it works without a hitch.

Only issue is the weird crash when bringing up the launcher that happens super rarely. A full shutdown/restart without the "reopen applications" button checked fixes it. Pretty sure it's a Big Sur issue with the emulated windows port using wine/crossover, not an M1-chip issue.
