What battle concepts might those be?

And playing multiple classes on one character is in no way a 'sequel' to XI. Please see: Final Fantasy V, Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy Tactics, Chocobo's Dungeon, and probably others that I've forgotten.

    Also, Tanaka.

Also I'm going to like every one of your posts... and to Zaaku... If you thought this would be a sequel because of the races then you are not really a big FF fan are you? All FF sequels use the same number and either have a -2 or a title after the number to denote that it is the same number game just a sequel.

So far there has never been a sequel that had a different number to it as far a Final Fantasy goes. I have also seen your thread on the tails for Roegadyn and I would just like to say this... They are not Galkas this is not Vana'diel you are on Eorzea in the world of Hydaelyn. Just because Tanaka made the races have the same likeness as the FFXI races does not make then the same...

So I want to know, so's I can try and compare it to FFXI, what were the best things about FFXI, and what made it so amazing? And also, why did Abyssea (if that's how you spell it) "ruin the game" as some people have said?
Please, i'm very interested to read about how great the game was.
Try not to write essays, if you can :P
It wasn't. Whoever says the opposite are masochists!

I understand the concept of ascending numbers in a franchised series of games.

What you fail to realize is the important FFXI had to me personally. Ask anyone what their favorite FF is and you'll get a long list and for a wide variety of reason. Many fans of the FF only play their title of choice 1-3 times total. Maybe 100hours if that. I played my favorite Final Fantasy for 4 years. I put a lot of time and effort into it and that means my interests are much more invested.

So when they make a new FF MMO , after burning the current one to the ground mind you, and use the exact same races from the LAST FF MMO you can see how this would be misleading. Taru Taru and Mithra are hardly your standard Tolkien fantasy races. When they imported them to FFXIV it was done so intentionally and to coax over FFXI players into subbing. Well guess what. That means they also subbed a bunch of people with a mindset that has certain expectations. No FF title had the same races from another in the series that wasn't a sequel of some kind. Why should we all just magically expect no one to point out this fact?

Then I have played Final Fantasy XI twice as long as you, and been there through far more changes. So yeah, emotional investment... (>.> )

EDIT: This only reinforces the feeling that the entirety of this thread is nothing more than nostalgia and an emotional attachment to people and times that are now gone, rather like leaving school, or moving to a new hometown. That is understandable, and I do feel for you, but it is not the fault of Final Fantasy XIV.

What's it gonna be dude, four years, or a decade?

Make a decision, stick with a story. This revisionist history is giving me whiplash.

Really... I played FFXI for about 8 years. So then I vested more into it then you right? So then shouldn't I be upset or hurt or entitled to something more then you because I put in way more time... really? really? you are joking with that line of thought right?

And last I checked FFXI is still up and running and has not been burned into the ground... sure it may not be the same as it was before and that abyssea thing may have changed it a lot but the game is still there and is still up and running. I'm a big big fan of SE and Final Fantasy... I have played all the Final Fantasy games that have come out and I even played the (the the time) only JP ones before they remade them and brought them over to the US. Never ever ever did I ever for the slightest second think that FFXIV would be a sequel to FFXI not even after I saw the races. You know why? because it was FFXIV and not FFXI-2 or FFXI:The Empire advances or something like that.

Um really... races... hmmm so you are telling me all the FF games up to say IX didn't all have humans? right?

Ok please Zaaku... Reach up inside FFXI's butt and pull the nostalgia goggles off your head... you are really in too far...
(sorry it had to be said...)

I poking fun at Abbeysea. The release date was the end of FFXI as we know it. The servers may be up but it's dead Jim.

    It is dead.

(o.O)> The best way to surf the internet and a difficult topic is with a tall glass of lemonade, and a delicate slice of New York style cheesecake, with perhaps a bit of raspberry sauce on the side.

Or a Godiva cheesecake. (>.> ) Either or.
