I've never really understood the appeal of imitation characters, though even less so people who just borrow the name of said character without actually trying to look like them.

When I first started playing the game, I wasn't the most inventive of the character creator when I created my first combat retainers. After playing for months, I ended up really liking the design of J'olhmyn, so she guards my house now. Since my House is in Kugane and everything is Hingashi themed, this was my chance to dress up J'olhmyn in Hingashi style. It's sort of my way of fantaing without using any Fantasia. I added facial tattoos so she isn't 1 for 1.

I have yet to see that type of roleplay. If I ever do, my response will be the same as tbd's: roll my eyes, shake my head, and move on.
I was, however, slightly bothered to see that someone had actually change their name to Asem. I guess that person wanted to embrace that shit, I dunno.
I'm mostly indifferent although seeing one of the many incarnations of Hildibrand usually makes me smile.
I don't rp and if I stumbled across an npc or two acting out of character it might grab my attention so that I paused long enough to get an idea what they were doing, but that's all.

I am not going to think of those characters as the NPCs they look like anyway, so I don't care much about how they are played.

I've only really noticed a couple of Haurchefants, mostly standing around AFKing with everyone else. I just kinda shrug and move on with my day, if I bother to notice at all.
If they're going to RP an existing NPC, I'd prefer they stay close to the canon portrayal, because otherwise, why bother trying to be an existing character? But, I don't RP, so it's not really my concern.
