SE's inability to protect players from stalking/harassment

They bring up blacklisting like it's the end-all-beat-all, and it's really fkn not. It's extremely frustrating, especially when I 've done everything I can to avoid this person BUT leave. And I won't be leaving either. I will continue to advocate for the fact that victims of stalking SHOULD NOT HAVE TO LEAVE and that SE needs to makes some serious changes. I wouldn't even be in these forum right now if my stalker hadn't persisted for so long. If they can put their energy into being a POS for an entire year, then I think I can manage advocating for changes for an entire year. I'm just wondering too, when did prevention stop being the first step to safety???

SE is only "really good" with dealing with harassment if there is evidence in the chat. Heavy-handed actually. If there isn't any evidence of that type, they won't touch it. As someone else posted, the friends list thing is not an oversight, but rather intended. So, that's another hurdle. This OP's problem will probably never be resolved, unless they mess up.

If you've sent over 100 reports, I think that is probably more of a detriment to your cause than anything else.

What are you even reporting for example? Like them sitting next to you? Like I don't wanna be mean or anything, but if they thought your reports were actionable they probably would have done something about it by now. I understand the intention of this thread, to get SE to take another look at some of their features, and I'll give you the benefit of the doubt on the stalking, but there is a point where if SE after 100 reports doesn't think it's actionable, you might choose your battles instead.

Impersonation, zone stalking, stalking me on her alts, stalking my alts, messaging in my message books to make contact with me even though I have her blacklisted.
I reported things that should matter- It's a huge waste of my time to report this person it's not a pleasure, it's a chore. I assure you that there have been occasions where she's harassed me and I just let it go bc it felt petty to report the things she was doing.

I think a lot of the time, people who have stalkers have them because you let every little action that the stalker or "stalker" (in some cases) does bother them. In cases where it's legitimate stalking, they can't really do anything to you in game, so why let it bother you so much? They hang around you and emote? Sure, it can be a bit annoying but that's all they can do, annoy you. And because you let it annoy you, they take joy in doing it. Don't let it bother you so much where it ends up they kill you with kindness. And as for people who have "stalkers" (i.e. I SAW THEM IN LIMSA USING THE MB! THEY ARE STALKING ME!), those people do exist and need some serious help.

Someone speaks up about being stalked and instead of getting help or encouragement to improve safety features, they get a response that they're being overly sensitive? And then people wonder what's wrong in society when victims never speak out about their traumas. Please, don't insult me. Ignoring has done nothing. Someone who is like my stalker is completely irrational, narcissistic, and selfish. They don't care if you ignore them or not because they get a rush from just doing the actions. It's a delusion.

You could be telling the truth or, for all we know, you could be bat crazy trying to get someone you don't like banned. I'll leave it to the GMs to investigate and handle. But from what I've seen so far in this thread, yes you are being overly sensitive. This person left a message to "Be kind" in a greeting book, they've been in the same zone as you, did motion emotes (the kind that doesn't spam your chat log) made characters who have similar names (which isn't against the rules) but hasn't spoken to you with these alts (which would be circumventing blacklist). Yes, I can see it being annoying, but you are being overly sensitive. I do not care if you think this callous, grow some thicker skin or get off the internet. It's a public forum and I'm allowed to add my 2 cents.

There really are stalkers in video games, usually unstable people who turn insane when dumped. In most games you can defriend/mute and they can't talk, or see your position. Some games even allow home bans, so they can't enter your house.

FFXIVs tools for dealing with these unstable people really are sub-par. A defriending system that is one sided is actually quite stupid - even in Japanese culture.
