Could server stability issues be mitigated by adding a forced log-out to FFXIV?

Champions Online and Star Trek Online do this. If you're inactive for a certain amount of time the game will let you know that you're now idle. If you sit for too long without doing anything, then a message in red text will let you know that if you're inactive for any longer that you'll be logged out of the server. I just now remember Star Wars The Old Republic doing this as well.

Though I agree with the idea, I don't think it should be so short, maybe 1-2 hours instead.

I thought about this before too, i don't see any harm in it. At least in cities. But i'd want it to be an hour at least.

Yup they should do this, but not before we have a decent AH and can use our retainers for peddling our wares and offer up our repairs.

It's a standard in AAA MMOs for a reason, there's no need for people to use up space if they are not playing and if we had the right systems for selling our items and asking for services. Anything they could do to alleviate server clogging is good by me.

Just needs to be more reason to be in other cities. I think linking the wards in each city, at least as far as the item search goes, will give players a lot more freedom.

Fact is, there just isn't a whole lot to do in the other cities compared to ul'dah. Everyone's there because all the important stuff is most accessible from there.

No, that doesn't really make sense. Perhaps charge a small fee, but not deny access.

Honestly, the server issues are not due to total population, they're due to too many of the population being in the same place at one time. Forcing people to log out isn't the answer (and effectively prevents bazaaring).

But in all seriousness... I think it's silly if people are not taking advantage of the exp bonus while the afk for many hours. I'm always chillin my Inn when ever I need to leave for more than 1 hour.


Edit: I really really hope we're not on the "new" hardware that's supposed to be utilized for 2.0. If that's the case.. we're in A LOT OF TROUBLE!
