Materia just lost the plot a long while ago. its barely really a choice anymore, they keep changing what it does every expansion, because people find out a bis or a way to exploit some of them, then they change them all again, and make role specific ones. Dont really see it leaving the game, but honestly wouldnt hurt the game much if it did go the way of the dinosaur..
100% this. Aside from the added inventory bloat of an additional VII and VIII clogging your inventory, this is just awful for RDM and PLD.
i imagine this is intentional. and also, red mage enchanted weaponskills are already 1.5/1.5/2.2 for the combo, 1.5 for moulinet, and 2.2 for reprise, which seems very intentional (and 1.5 seconds mean they get no benefit from SkS anyway since that's the absolute cap on GCD).
