Hey new player here. I have the Steam version of FF14. I bought the X Series controller to play Final Fantasy with. Was having the same issues everyone described here. Good thing I found this forum post. Anyways, I just exchanged the controller for one of the older ones and it works fine over Bluetooth for me now.
On a side note, the X Series controller would randomly disconnect from my laptop for a few seconds every now and again which was annoying, the older one isn't having that issue. I think its probably connected to that new Bluetooth protocol someone was talking about earlier in the thread.
Not the ideal fix, but I think I prefer having a micro-usb to charge my controller with anyways.

If you haven't updated the controller's firmware, do so. You need the Microsoft Accessories application for it. Mine and my cousin's controller was disconnecting and was fixed with the firmware update.

My X|S controller works just fine with other steam games, so do what dexx says to just update the firmware. But we still nowhere near in finding any affection given for our little problem here in this thread. The last response from the mod is that the game is not optimized for Bluetooth controller connection, which is kind of bogus given that I've played without issue with my One controller before.

Nothing I (or we) can do except hoping that any mod that reads this thread at least escalate this issue to the higher ups, because any troubleshooting they give won't do much, and saying what the mod said in their last response was quite a neglectful slap honestly.

Hey all, thought I'd chime in as I got my Core controller to work last night, although I'm not super thrilled about the workarounds needed to use it without weird camera or trigger issues in-game.

I had the same issue: controller works fine over USB on bluetooth was not being correctly recognized: no deadzone on the camera stick, unable to use LT+RT to access a layer of XHB, etc.

Worked around this by using another program, x360ce, to map the Core controller inputs to a virtual X360 controller, and selecting that as the controller in the FF14 settings.

And behold! no camera issues, LT+RT working properly, everything working like its on USB. I've used x360ce in the past (and DS4windows) to work around games not recognizing gamepads correctly, but its always a bit dissapointing to resort to that. Hopefully this works for ya'll as well.

I apologize for the delay in our response to your concern. Unfortunately, the game was not designed for use with a blue tooth controllers. We advise to make sure the drivers are up to date and installed properly. We apologize as we are only able to provide limited trouble shooting on the issue. In addition to double checking the drivers, you may want to try and see if there is a tool or program you can use to help trouble shoot any issues. Other than that, we advise to use a wired Logitech or Xbox360 controller as they work best.

Thank you for visiting the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums
Your reply to a legitimate issue that we as paying customers are having is quite honestly bullshit. Escalate this issue to your dev ops people. Very disappointed and considering ending my subscription over something that is honestly as a developer an easy fix.

Hey guys, another work around that seems to work for me is using the official Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10. Though it doesn't feel good to spend $25 to get the Xbox Core controller to work with FFXIV.

I also tried my 8BitDo Bluetooth adapter but as of right now it seems the firmware of isn't compatible with the controller itself. I emailed their support and they said are looking into getting their firmware updated to support it.

Exactly this. So I figured out that FF14 is TOO sensitive with bluetooth devices. This is not limited to the Xbox controller but keyboards and mice as well. My friend has issues with KB/M over bluetooth but is no longer using BT. I just bought a xbox series controller and it has this issue. It just rotates the camera on its own. I observed that if you barely tap on the controller, it starts moving which is why FF14 is too sensitive. It is using generic drivers (LE XINPUT) instead of the correct ones. The temporary solution right now is to use a third party calibration tool to reduce the sensitivity level of the right thumbstick. In-game there is only one slider which is used for the left stick. That's pretty bad :/

Edit: I just want to point out that if it's plugged in using USB-C it has no issues. If possible, what file can we modify and what can we change there? For instance FFXIV.cfg has <GamePad Settings> if we can just change something here to force it to work then that would be fine too.
