    Woah ... Slow down a bit ...

So I rolled a new character on a new world to experience the story again and make some gil, because I am poor and I wanted to see how much 4 (incl. base) expansions worth of MSQ will give me in gil minus some small things like repairs and the odd teleport.

I am at level 18 in the MSQ, I am level 32.

    SLOW THE ^&*( DOWN

So I have done NOTHING accept MSQ and class quests - which as I am going to be a summoner - I cannot unlock my job stone quests till the girdanian quest with the fairies. I am done my class quests and I am this level 32 arcanist running around doing MSQ and the odd unlock quest and getting not only "preferred server" reward (and - I think???) the "road to 70" boost.

Christ. The XP was not like this in my day. I don't mind it but I can understand how a new player could get to 50 long before the MSQ catches up with them.

This might lead to the "why are running around with out a job stone" - they probably haven't gotten that far or are legit stupid.

My only real complaint is the following:

You give me boat loads of XP but very little if any gil for the MSQ quests.

I am not asking for wow level of gil here (5 mil in 3 quests). But ya know maybe a 1k or 500-1k? Gil means nothing anyways with the markets overrun by bots and undercutting. There is no economy. So why not be a smidge more generous?

Also level 32 and you wont let me do my summoner job stone because of MSQ. The actual %^&* wrong with you? LOL. I am that player - above level 30 and no job stone.

    I agree.

I bought an MMO newbie into the game, and was hoping to level moderately slowly so that I could teach them what it was about. Before we could blink it's the end of HW and we are doing alliances and places like the Vault before they even know the difference between an AOE and DOT.

Levelling is way. way, way, way too fast for a new player, even if we skip everything but MSQ. And by the middle of ARR even that leaves us 10 to 20 levels over.

It would be nice if SE had a way we could level very slowly, or even pause and bank XP until we were ready to accept a level and move on.

Maybe it's the time - for those who want it - to end XP based levels and move to quest given levels instead?

I think SE expects new players to level up other Jobs and try things up. That's why they give you so much exp.

It's not at all ideal for an MMO virgin. Allowing pausing/banking that XP for other jobs and proceeding at a slow pace so they can pick up what a rotation is, how to behave in dungeons, and even how to dodge agro in the open world by moving behind monsters makes more sense.

We are around Moghome and they only just now understand to ride behind the monster, and not to stop if they accidentally trigger agro. But they are not skilled enough to do dungeons, not by a long shot. To me, they should still be back around Brayflox.

When you switch classes you are going back to level 1 so you get more experience re-doing those open world things while you level up again. You may not get rotation experience on your first original class but at the same time, quests and fates require you to fight so many monsters you essentially have them ingrained into you.

Leveling doesn't grant you to reach endgame faster, or even to access high level dungeons that require more skill. That's always locked behind the MSQ, and the MSQ is quite long.

Maybe they made leveling faster because many people complain that combat is so slow at first. The faster you reach the fun part of combat, the better? Also, we'll no longer have the problem of being locked out of the MSQ due to insufficient level. As a ravid alt maker, I for one appreciate this.

Then don't choose a server that has the Road to 70 Buff on. I joined as a first time FFXIV player (but not an MMO virgin) on a server with the buff, and was like level 28 before I did Sastasha at 15.

The reason they do this is to incentivise people to join those servers because they are quiet, it's a reward for NOT joining a busy server where all your friends might play, and you may have an easier time getting parties for FATEs and Raids. I suppose from a design standpoint, when they open a new server, or are trying to drive up the population on a new server, they want to have a suitably high population of people at end game and maxed out on their classes and gear, so that new players have people to guide them through the game. They offer you options, if this is not for you, then you may pick a server that is already established, and doesn't offer this reward.

It's not like they're forcing you to have a permanent EXP buff after all.

OP is on Marlboro, we are on Faerie. Neither of these are preferred servers, are they? In fact, until recently, Faerie was congested.

Mm, I worked that out sometime in 2013 when level 30 was the highest. Point is, it's insanely fast for a first job. It needs to slow down a lot, especially at the lower levels to give people time to find their legs. Bank the XP for the second job, or allow the XP to flow faster on a second job. But for that first job, the system really could allow a little time for people to find their legs, it's insanely fast.

Leveling should be fast for your alt jobs or if you're indecisive and keep switching jobs.

On your first/main job, the level is irrelevant beyond keeping up with the MSQ as many other features of the game are locked behind the MSQ and certain side quests.

If you're level 32 and are still on the level 18 MSQ, then you only have content that you can unlock up to that point and you'll be synced down when you queue.

Fast level is not a problem in this game as you're not locked out of any content/reward for being overleveled (as far as I know as I don't do all content, ok, one exception might be certain endgame currency changes depending if you're at the current max level, but those hardly matter as you can still get the actual items).

Also, the faster you level, the faster you get your abilities, and too many people (I'm not one of them) have a problem as it is with having too few skills combined with the GCD.
