Please alter the housing system a little bit?

At the moment it's just barbaric and I know this has been screamed numerous times now but I feel it's really detrimental to people's mental health. (Okay so it's their choice whether or not they spend up to 20 hours clicking on a house placard that might not ever let them buy it but come on..)

I spent up to six hours yesterday on one house battling for it with another guy. Turned out he was botting and ended up getting the house. I had to stand there and watch as he kept tilting his head at the sign for up to twenty plus minutes after he purchased the property we were both clicking on.

I spent five hours at another house where I'm currently at right now, which still hasn't unlocked and there's eight people here. God knows how many of them are also bots. I know some of them aren't because we joke around.

Before that, I've spent countless hours at house plots where I've been -completely- alone and they haven't unlocked after hours of my face desking at all hours in the morning.

Yes. Trolls and unhelpful people are just going to say it's my fault for trying to buy a house but to be honest, I think that's extremely detrimental and unfair. I've been trying to get a house for myself and my friends for a long time now. The system is absolutely inane and it needs looking into, properly.
    • Get rid of the RNG timer or make it less taxing
    • Limit the number of properties that a single player can own
    • Open more wards or more housing areas. It's not hard.
    • Please don't throw them all into instances. The current format is good. It just needs to be implemented properly.
    • Take more action to ban/remove bots/botting from the game.

At any rate, I'm giving up for the time being because I don't have anymore time off and my hands, fingers, etc are very numb from clicking. Please fix this system. It's cruel. :/

I am legit curious. How do you tell the difference between a bot and someone just button clicking?
Had people around me and my GM accusing us of botting, cause messages stop me from clicking. The fiends!

    • Get rid of the RNG timer or make it less taxing
    • - also makes it impossible to get housing. first come first serve is easier, but then bots will get to it that much easier too

    • Limit the number of properties that a single player can own
    • - they already do. 1 FC and 1 personal. they just didn't make it retroactive to players from before the change

    • Open more wards or more housing areas. It's not hard.
    • - each ward requires server resources. since they're all open world, its gotta be treated like another open world. so "additional stress" has to be tested and confirmed. it's not hard is definitely a false belief.

    • Please don't throw them all into instances. The current format is good. It just needs to be implemented properly.

    • Take more action to ban/remove bots/botting from the game.
    • - they delete and take action to hundreds almost every week. it doesn't help when players support the bots, and when bots come faster than the reports. its also more of a hassle to report bots, which doesn't help, but i don't want it easy, cause they'd report people for botting just to get them out of the way.

The current system isn't perfect, but it at least keeps it semi-balanced.

Hey there! Thanks for getting back to me.

I presumed they were a bot because about thirty minutes after actually managing to successfully buy the house, they were still there clicking on the sign endlessly which implied they weren't physically at the workstation or having to input commands themselves. It really irritated myself and the other person who had been there for roughly the same amount of time. Unfortunately, there's no such way of knowing if that's what they're doing -while- they're doing it but it seemed to be the case.

I think there are potential alternatives to the RNG timer system currently in place. A lottery, a waiting list (arguably the current system is a waiting list for people who have time to stand next to a sign and break their keyboards, controller or mouse for hours on end). First come, first serve at least ensures that players aren't wasting away next to a placard for unhealthy amounts of hours. Ultimately, that's up to them, of course but these games are designed to be addictive and the 'carrot on a stick' effect is extremely intoxicating for a lot of people. It's a bit grating to see my friends complaining about how they can't get a house, will never have one, etc, and then I go to try and prove them wrong but the system can't appreciate 14+ hours of physical clicking effort. Q_Q

Well I'm glad they've done that at least. Guess they can't make it retroactive or it would be extremely unfair, though arguably I'm not very keen on people who are overly greedy about these things. "I have x amount of houses /flex" - plsss staaahp.

Open more wards or more housing areas. It's not hard.

Obviously it's a bit ignorant for me to make that statement so I'll elaborate a little. I don't know how their servers work or how big they are, but I imagine they can be upgraded or expanded to facilitate demand. I've had housing in Everquest, Runescape, Guild Halls in Guild Wars, Garrisons in WoW for every player, housing in ToR, entire instanced area in GW2 that are player specific, etc, etc. Obviously all of these games have different parameters and requirements, but FFXIV obviously isn't meeting any reasonable parameter to ensure a fair and stable system. I think the amount of money we put into the game justifies a request for additional work from the developer to spend time refining these systems so they work to an enjoyable standard.

All in all, I'm going to keep trying but I hope they make it slightly less murderous on my hands.

Right now your best bet is to level a FC to rank 6 as fast as possible and get a fc house in one of the new wards, OP. There is still plenty open in the goblet. You mentioned getting a house for you and your friends, so why not make it into a FC endeavor instead of getting a personal so you can have them as tenants (if this was your intention).

I just wish they would do something other than this current system. The way the house demolishing system currently works encourages either botting it or sitting for hours on end bored out of your mind as everyone huddles around a placard for hours on end just for only 1 person to get it because they clicked at the right second, wasting the time everyone else spent spam clicking.

While I personally am not strapped for time and could spend 8-20 hours spam clicking a placard on most days, I can think of a million things more engaging and worth my time and I'm sure a lot of other players who don't have houses feel the same way.

The only way to make them see the error of their ways is to stop subbing. That is the only thing they understand, the almighty dollar.

Literally no one ive read on here thinks that the system is perfect, but they have made improvements over time and continue to be open to feedback. But getting a house on Balmung isnt easy, so congrats.

I second this. Its a hopeless battle where there is to many loosers compared to winners. They might as well have made the whole housing, a lottery in the Saucer. Then people had at least not felt so dejected and bored over all this.

The timer is good, with out the random timer you get people still using bots, taking the plot, and scalping it out of game for large Gil amounts or for real money cash. They need to at least allow FC's to bypass the timers and prioritize FC's like they do when new housing is implemented, or just simply treat the wards like the pages of Apartment or FC rooms. Once a page is full up, another is added. Just keep adding wards as they fill up if they're not gonna do something about the bots.
