Was thinking about this again and I'm still disappointed it either never occurred to them, or it did but they decided against it...Occurred to me just now though, they had the perfect opportunity to diversify Samurai's arsenal with Shadowbringers... The First's equivalent of the East is long gone, so aside from a stray antique or two it makes no sense that there would be "katanas" dropping as loot, while historically a lot of Norvrandt (especially Voeburt) was shown to have been more traditionally "fantasy", with kingdoms and princesses and knights etc. so they could've conceivably come up with and used two-handed longswords. The Crystarium Samurai Blade almost looks like it could've been one, even...
If only they'd done that, then I wouldn't be so anxious about the results of the Weapon Design Contest. We could have had an expansion full of non-traditional SAM weapon options (aside from the relics) just to change things up. The Crystarium Samurai Blade was the only good example we got and even then it's still a saber, just a much better-looking one than its predecessors.
Ummmmmm. Here's a brief explanation for why the katana is shaped the way it is shaped. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/WhOs-hsjh9c
The narrator puts a lot of thought into what goes into his channel, and does the research.
Can I have a Katana as a Paladin?
❤️Hydaelyn is precious Crystal Mommy!
Honestly kind of surprised you don't, already...
You can have a macuahuitl, though.
Crystarium sam sword is straight iirc, looks more like a admiral sword
Naw. The game doesn't need to be realistic. Might as well remove ninja if we wanna go down this path, because they're actually just samurai. We need to maintain anime-weeb fantasy of Samurais in this game.
I want my FFXIV classes to be anime stereotypes.
Well, Weapon Design Contest winners are out, so here's my "Straight Swords for Samurai" submissions at long last:
First was intended to be "European" themed, second "Asian", based on Chinese Jian, and the third was... kind of a sloppy last-minute submission (which shows)
