For me personally, any SAM sword that has deviated from the traditional blades have been quickly chucked or glamoured over. However, I can still support SAM swords that differ. A couple jobs come to mind with basically completely different weapons: MNK has tonfas and bare hands, PLD have been seen with clubs, and giant hammers for WAR. Sometimes I even wonder if you replaced DNC chakrams with twin whips if it would immediately just work.
As I mentioned I was playing DRK before...
UCOB? Not sure what that stands for, sorry!
Right? I get that "Samurai" evokes a more specific image than "Paladin" or "Dark Knight", but... well, honestly I can't come up with any good arguments beyond "it'd be nice to have more options"
Oh, that's some nice coordination.
Still very much katana-shaped but yeah I've been tempted to just switch to one of these. There's a recurring design that you can get from Gubal Library at the earliest:

You certainly have plenty of options if traditional-looking katanas are your preference. But yeah as with the others it would be nice if SAM had more variety like other jobs doFor me personally, any SAM sword that has deviated from the traditional blades have been quickly chucked or glamoured over. This game is full of great customizations, weapons and clothes, i never seen any players in this game wearing exactaly same as i.For me personally, any SAM sword that has deviated from the traditional blades have been quickly chucked or glamoured over. Lol weebs..
Trying to downplay the weeb, thank you very much
So... I'm satisfied with my current SAM glam, but with a new expansion on the horizon I'm holding out hope there'll be a bit more variety amid the new additions. There's several existing swords for GLD/PLD that could easily be two-handed, I've mostly picked ones here that match how slender SAM weapons tend to be:

Show them what kind of swords do you want!... yes, I know the class is literally called Samurai, but some variety would be nice for a change, right?
PLD gets swords of all shapes and curvatures, as does DRK (to a lesser extent?), so I think it's only fair SAM get some of that attention, too. I'm currently using the Katana of Althyk on my character, but I keep noticing things about its design that are 'off' and it's driving me crazy lol
and i'm too anxious to go back to playing DRK. And yes, I know iai techniques make no sense with a straight blade but c'mon..
Tsiron's current weapon glam, the Ravel Keeper's Blade, is clearly based on what's known as a Shashka, while another one I homed in on but ended up not liking as much, the Crystarium Samurai Blade, would best be described as a Swiss Sabre? So they're not entirely averse to referencing non-japanese weaponry, and that's good! It's a (debatably) fantasy game while our character wanders all over, so it's not unreasonable they'd pick up some more unorthodox weapons along the way despite ostensibly being a "samurai", y'know?
