Updated the game worked this morning, got off and went back after some time and it shows this and can't get in
Also this is on PC
Same issue here, also on PC version (The non-steam version). I updated with the 5.4 hotfix this morning played for a couple hours and had to head out. Came back later in the afternoon and continuously got this message. So far I have:
-Shut down and restarted my computer multiple times.
-Made sure I ran it as admin (as I Do every single time I play)
-Disabled my firewall (and windows defender fire wall as well)
-Altered FFXIV_BOOT.cfg to change BootVersionCheckMode to true (1)
-Deleted the downloads within the same folder as FFXIV_BOOT.cfg
-attempted a random switch to DX9 (Which did allow me through the launcher to the game proper, but on choosing my data center it alerted me that the game needed an update and kicked me out anyhow)
-Ran in compatibility mode for windows 7 and 8, both failed to change anything.
I'm on windows 10 and the only thing I have yet to do so far is reinstall FFXIV which I would love to avoid doing.

I also have the same issue and tried the same things. The game launched fine yesterday after maintenance.
Edit: Reinstalling right now, I'll keep you updated (no pun intended).

Good morning and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.
Please try the following troubleshooting steps:
- The game will use the Internet Explorer web browser to connect to the internet. Open Internet Explorer, then open the "Tools" setting, go to "Internet Options" and adjust the following settings:
- Under the "General" tab, please delete ALL browser history.
- Under the "Security" tab, please move the slider to the lowest possible settings or no higher than "Medium"
- Under the "Privacy" tab, click “Advanced” and select ‘Accept’ under both First Party and Third Party Cookies.
- Under the "Advanced" tab, please make sure that "Allow software to run or install even if signature is invalid" is CHECKED.
- Make sure that all SSL and TLS (EXCEPT SSL 3.0) are CHECKED. [SSL 3.0 should be UNCHECKED]
- Hit "Apply" to save the settings, and then "OK, to close the Internet Options menu.
- Please RESTART your PC now. Once your PC has been restarted, Right-Click the FFXIV launcher icon once more and select "Run as Administrator"
-Make sure your fire wall or antivirus program is not interfering with the game
- Check to see if the following port ranges are opened on your router. You can contact your ISP and request they open them for you:
▼TCP
54992 through 54994,
55006 through 55007,
55021 through 55040
-Try disabling background applications and do a clean boot by opening the task manager and selecting the “Start up” tab. Disable everything and then restart the PC.
Thank you for visiting the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.
That seems odd about a browser work around to fix a launcher problem
FIY, reinstalling worked for me. I wish I didn't have to do it, but hey, at least it works now. I had seen the browser workaround in another thread a tried it, and it didn't work.
Ok so I'm back in the game I had a friend help and apparently I downloaded his dx11 file and it worked I don't know if this will work for everyone
Good morning and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.
