A harsher penalty on MSQ Duty Roulette

I've been a long time player on this game, started around late Heavensward and I've never really posted here until now and there's something that's honestly been bugging me since the latter half of Stormblood. Ever since the decision was made to make the cutscenes unskippable in MSQ instance dungeons, for newcomers wanting to enjoy the story, a sizeable amount of people have become...less than pleasant as a result. This was in regards to Castrum Meridianum where people have bailed out of the duty immediately after rolling it, simply because they think it's a waste of time due to granting less EXP and requiring more attention than the Praetorium. To be honest, I had wished the change come sooner because I was wanting to watch the cutscenes and play through the content normally when I first started because I was new and wanted to see how the story unfolded, never skipping cutscenes.

But ever since that change however, the biggest roadblock for newcomers to completing the MSQ isn't the challenge of the dungeons themselves, but other players, people far too greedy and impatient to the point of immediately quitting the dungeon, leaving newcomers stuck and unable to progress.

There have been a number of times where I've felt I had to report this because of how extremely frustrating the frequency at which people abandon the duty over not getting Praetorium just so they can be lazy and get a large amount of EXP, not caring about the experience of new players and helping them clear content they need to clear. I honestly feel like there needs to be a far harsher penalty imposed on those who quit when there are people new to the instance as they are actively obstructing progress for them, especially with how often this actually happens. A mere thirty minute or hour long lockout of the DF feels like too light of a penalty, a mere slap on the wrist because people will just not care and eat the penalty and then keep doing it everyday everytime they don't get the thing they wanted.

I'm aware that others have shared similar sentiments but I honestly think this issue needs to be addressed and maybe not just MSQ, but for all duty roulettes.

Nope. A 30 minute penalty is good enough. I would rather them leave then have to worry about kicking them later for being afk.

It is unfortunate how the whole msq dungeons are. Square Enix learned from the criticism over these dungeons and instead of "fixing" them in the eyes of the majority they just made the cut scenes unskippable and left them as is kind of a mid ground. They HEAP rewards on people who queue for them as an incentive. I love running Praetorium well enough simply because of the two main scenario roulettes I can get up and potty or get a drink during those scenes. Castrum boringdanum on the other hand is just really short and in my opinion mostly useless shots of a screen fading or a flying duck space ship flying around no real chance to pee or get a snack at all.

As I said tho they learned how to NOT do that in future dungeons with a few that have a long cut scene at the start of some dungeons. It got better as stormblood and even ShB have very few instances of this going on.

I know a new player shouldn't have to resort to party finder to ask for assistance to get the main scenario roulettes done but it is an option for them. I have not really bailed on either msq roulettes because I got one I thought wasn't what I wanted to do at that time but I have left at the start of one because something came up, maybe once when I logged in and queued up and realized I wasn't in the mood to. The worst part of it I think is the need to reward monstrous amounts of exp or tomestones to incentivize it for people. Like if you need to special hold those dungeons out and offer that kind of reward just to get people to queue for them that to me sounds like a need to redesign them altogether or cut them into lesser parts. But it has been this way for years and I expect no changes. Punishing someone sounds a bit extreme, unless both healers left and both tanks , you should be capable to clear either with few hiccups. Anyhow enough ramblin from me.

Nope. You can’t arbitrarily punish players for not wanting to play with you or dealing with certain content. You can argue till you’re blue in the face that they shouldn’t queue for the roulette in the first place if they aren’t prepared to run anything that rolls (and that’s a sentiment I agree with, for the record), but your proposition is likely to cause them to abandon the roulette all together, then you’re right back to bloated queue times that saw the creation of the roulette in the first place. Or as Violet points out, they may simply AFK until you dismiss them, assuming you even can.

Mentor Roulette puts me in MSQ duties fairly often, and I will dip out and find another game to play for 30 minutes every single time. Those instances simply fun for me. I'd rather chain wipe in Ramuh Ex with seven sprouts for an hour and get no rewards than do them one more time.

SE says the penalty for not accepting the duty I'm given is 30 mins of no other duties, and I'm more than happy to pay it. If SE implements a harsher penalty (say, a two hour lockout) then people will instead force themselves to disconnect and wait for vote kicks. Nothing would change, other than the remaining players being forced to vote kick people before being able to replace them.

I don't know who you're playing with, but I so rarely run across a player not playing.

    Commendations.
If I play dps I only give it out to other dps.
If I play tank I only give it out to healers.
If I play healer I only give it out to tank.

Only if they should be getting a commendation.
There are always exceptions to the rules!

SE should take advantage of the Trust system to turn both Praetorium and Castrum solo player duties with NPCs replacing players while making Ultima+Lahabrea a Trial. Then you can move to make the MSQ roulette one that spans all dungeons and Trials that are required for MSQ.

Or you know the devs could actually rework those dungeons so they arent the outliers that needs their own roulette and forced unskippable cutscenes with over the top bonuses to bribe vets to help run new players though it.
