    request : player stalls

hello , i have this little request it doesn't affect the game but it does affect the immersion and the game's world
    -
i would love if we have the option to let our characters sell by themselves and not having to use the marketboard . it would be something like this

and everytime the character starts selling it would do a special emote that lets you open a small stall or just sit on a carpet with items in front of you .
there doesn't have to be a difference between selling on the marketboard or in these stalls , or maybe just remove the market fees if you are going to sell using a stall ?

.. Do you like permanent login queues?

    EDIT: let me clarify
Right now there is no particular reason for people to stay logged in other than dodging queues right after major patches. Giving them reasons to stay logged in for long periods of time will keep servers at capacity during even "off" periods and hours. You will find more populous servers will have queues of hundreds or thousands depending on how many people are "squatting" just to sell things.

It's a cute idea, but every game I've seen something like this in very quickly turns into a RMT-infested cluttered mess unfortunately.

In FF11 there is the Auction House system (basically our MB) and the Bazaar system which lets players sell items currently in their inventory (a bag icon next to their name to indicate they had things for sale). The AH had very limited quantities to go up for sale, thus many players also sold with the bazaar.

It did lead to many players simply going AFK in and around Jeuno (the not expansion hub city). Near the AHs, near the housing, in front of the zone line to Jeuno in Rolanberry Fields, people were AFK everywhere to sell from their bazaar.

FF11 did not suffer from queue times as, especially the large servers, FF14 does currently. And more AFK people would congest it further since you would remain logged in to sell this way, unlike the MB.

FF14 1.X also used the bazaar system if I recall, but there was no auction house/market board. They took it out in ARR in favor of the Market Board.

FFXIV 1.0 had the Market Ward, an instanced area in each city where retainers actually physically spent their time. Originally this was the only way to actually buy anything from them, you had to enter the Market Ward and phyiscally walk up to a retainer there and speak with them as if you were accessing a NPC vendor. And as a part of that, there were empty stall fronts you could also rent and stick your retainer in to "make them more visible" to other players, which is similar to what the OP wants. Unfortunately this, like a lot of of what 1.0 did, did not work as well as they had planned - it was time consuming and annoying to have to look through every retainer there to find anything, and the laggy nature of 1.0 meant things often hung while the client and server talked to each other.

After Yoshi took over as producer and director, one of the many changes he implemented to 1.0 was a search function was added to the Market Ward that greatly improved it (and thus you no longer had to speak to each retainer individually), and it is this search function that ultimately became the Market Board in ARR, the physical Ward being abolished and rolled into the search function (and hence that meant you could no longer hire market stalls). Lore wise the Market Wards still exist, but only as a hypothetical place retainers only can access (this is what the game means when you hire a retainer that you "send the retainer to the Markets"), the Market Board is basically a streamlined shopfront for accessing the wares of all retainers in the one place.

The whole Market Ward system in 1.0 was a good idea on paper, but one that did not work well in practice, and hence I do not see SE bringing it back.

That’s exactly what I was thinking of how it was with 1.0 it was kind of a pain to find what you’re looking for.

However I get it, it’s a cute idea. Just wish there was a better way to implement it.

You can kinda do this with housing. They've been adding more and more features to allow people to set their homes up as shops. I haven't seen or heard of anyone using it that way, but it sort of exists.

As mentioned, XI did this with player bazaars and 1.0 did this with the market ward. Neither one was very enjoyable to work with. And at least in my opinion, there’s nothing that seems very immersive about becoming a glorified vendor while you’re AFK. You would be better off requesting cushions and carpets that can be used like the parasols and just advertise and sell your wares manually (and probably limit their use to certain areas to prevent people from doing things like carpet-crowning market boards).

Could turn it into a gil sink of sorts with having it so players rent out a stall for their retainer in an instanced market street.

I never knew that 1.0 had the market ward thing. It sounds cool, but I can see why it wouldn't work as well as what we have now.

I would much rather utilize our retainers in this process, rather than have players actually AFK in the middle of a hub town to sell stuff. The problem is you're never going to make anything more convenient than just walking up to a market board and buying something. Anything you design is going to be used as an alternative to the existing market board for a more immersive, yet cumbersome experience. Probably by RPers and the like.

I would say that the most useful thing they could do with this idea is let us better use our housing plots as shops. We can set up a retainer, but only outside for some reason, and only a few of them at a time.
