    Wine Please!

I am an IRL vinophile. I was extremely excited when I saw that FF14 had an established viticulture, as part of the main story quest no less. I was excited to explore this lore. two of my favorite things in one, Final Fantasy and wine! Imagine my disappointment to find there was no actual interaction with this lore (I still remain hopeful that we may later.)

Particularly, I was excited to be able to make wine only to find out there is no such craft in the game. I can't even put grape vines in my house despite the game already having the sprite for grape vines in game.

I write this in the hopes that it may inspire the developers to add wine content to the game. Wine recipes and wine decorations in particular. I am aware that there are wine casks, wine racks, wine glasses, and a chilled red (that can only be drunk by house owners not guests...) It would be nice to have an actual wine that can be served.

If you wanted to take it one step further, wine making is a fascinating process. It would make for a very interesting mini-game. you could get different quality and flavor profiles based on how you do in the mini-game.

Just a hopeful vinophile looking to mix his passions

I don’t really expect it, but I would welcome a sort of “farmer” Job added to the disciples of land. Things like various fruit trees or apiculture (honey) would be interesting....but I really don’t expect it due to how current materials are gathered.

They will never implement such a feature in the game because it would result in a major reclassification of the game in many countries who have censorship restrictions on media depicting consumption of alcohol - FFXIV's current classification in most countries is the equivelant of 'mid teens' and such an inclusion would result in it requiring a more adult classification, something SE would not want as it means losing a major share of it's player base. This is the same reason the player cannot smoke despite there being an ashtray furnishing for houses.

They can get away with depicting NPCs drinking alcohol or producing it, but the moment they make it gameplay that changes the as it's 'interactive' and thus 'encourages alcoholism', and requires a tougher more restrictive classification (I don't agree with such censorship, but that's how many countries' governments have responded and their attitude towards it, if you're unhappy with it contact your local government representative and try and get them to change it).

I doubt it would have that much impact on the rating. WoW allows player characters to consume alcohol, and doing so causes the screen to blur and wobble and the player character to veer left and right and be unable to move in a straight line, and causes enemies to appear lower level than they actually are, and it's still rated T. Getting drunk in WoW also causes messages to appear in the chat log such as "You feel tipsy", "You feel drunk", and "You feel completely smashed".

That said, the resources it would take Square Enix to do its due diligence (I.e. checking with the ratings boards of all the countries they operate in) before implementing that might not be worth the effort.

WoW has a recurring holiday called "Brewfest" where you get smashed drunk and have fun. It's still rating T on the ERSB.

There was something quite fun long ago when I played WoW and you could drink some mead in the inn, round a camp fire, or at the Darkmoon Faire. (While I still keep tabs on WoW, and others, good to know what other games are doing and if SE is trying to stay relevant, I don't actively play any other mmo).

The fish eye effect when you drank too much was also pretty cute. Another example of where I think WoW tends to get that roleplay vibe down better (still play FFXIV because I think it's better in general, just an element I wish FFXIV leaned harder on), and wish FFXIV, when it didn't derail their plans at least lol, take queues and add flare like that.

On the whole ratings issue. . sounds like it 'could' be a bureaucratic nightmare so I could see that being scary, but as mentioned at least WoW got away with it and they're exceptionally transparent with it too.. it's not like they snuck it in via butterbeer or something lol.

I still loved LotRO's drinking mechanic. If I remember right you could drink, and your graphics would start to blur (and you would get a stacking 'Party Time' effect); when you had drunk enough times from the keg, the debuff flavor text was something like "It's Drunk O'Clock! Do you know where your pants are?" And when it expired, you'd black out, wake up somewhere randomly in the game, and your pants would be missing (effectively glamoured invisible). And you had a debuff with an icon of a sad panda, with flavor text noting that your pants were missing and this made you a sad panda.

When the debuff wore off, your pants reappeared.

(The hallucinogenic toad venom had a pretty hilarious debuff too.)

I aim to make my posts engaging and entertaining, even when you might not agree with me. And failing that, I'll just be very, VERY wordy.

ERSB is not the only certification board in the world. In my country WoW is rated for adult play, while FFXIV carries a lower Parental Guidance rating. And this is the root of problem, there are so many countries who play this game, and SE would need to re-certify it in every region.

That's a lot of money, and an lot of time.

That sounds like a night out with Sanguine. Sans the Hagraven marriage.

"I thought that my invincible power would hold the world captive, leaving me in a freedom undisturbed. Thus night and day I worked at the chain with huge fires and cruel hard strokes. When at last the work was done and the links were complete and unbreakable, I found that it held me in its grip." - Rabindranath Tagore
