It'd be really neat if all characters/alts on a server had shared ownership to a single private house.
Some hypotheses: lack of maintenance of this system, lack of events in general, people's tiredness with regard to rickety housing. Allowing neighborhood renewal requires real maintenance - something SE doesn't do (for good reason, no doubt: housing is not a priority content). Artificial maintenance could be achieved through owner renewal, but lack of accessibility prevents this.
TBH, even on legacy servers when houses were limited to FC and super expensive, it's always been quiet. I feel like unless it's a big FC, you will almost never see your neighbors around.
WoW's doing it. LOTRO already does it. Why are we still pretending like it's not possible?FFXIV's housing is the way that it is because of Yoshi P's original vision for housing. He wanted actual living neighborhoods, where you could stroll around and see other folks' houses - something you simply can't do with instanced housing, no matter how you slice it. To see someone's house, you have to first enter their instance.
It is possible, and it's also super boring and soulless, so no thank you, I'd rather the game sticks to ward housing and either adds a lot more wards, or adds dynamic ward housing adding wards based on demand, that way everyone gets at least a small house, there's enough games with instanced housing, feel free to play one of those.
adding more wards until everyone has a house? how do you even know how much is enough?
also some people said multiowner dont make a difference. but of course they do. every multiowner means there has to be a house more to actually reach the point where everyone has a house. and there is no telling how many houses people will buy if there would be an increase in houses. so every player who isnt fast enough, starts the game later or just doesnt have luck in the lottery will potentially have no house.
this means there would be a need to have enough houses for every character and also every fc in the game.... thats a LOT.
and to be clear i am pro wards. i dont really see the point in indtanced housing. but for the whole thing to be viable it needs regulations. and for a lively neighbourhood you would have to concentrate the active house owners in one ward.

without fun jobs none of the content is fun
Still baffling to me that the devs never thought to fix the "single player owning multiple houses on a single account" issue. Especially after a decade of this problem persisting and making the housing ward scarcity even worse.
Never forget your one true friend.
What do you MEAN?
LOTRO has housing wards that spin up as needed.
WoW is planning neighborhoods that can be private or public and spin up as needed. XIV players stay making excuses for a system that is bad on purpose.
Instanced is a garbage system .it did not look great in eso .it will not look good in wow either . Xiv has one of the best housing system
