When do you think the next expansion will be?

Usually, expansions are released every two years which means the next expansion would be coming up in Summer 2021. However, I personally think it probably won't happen until Summer 2022 thanks to Covid. Heavensward took 3 years to release as well, if I recall right.



When do you think the next expansion release will be? When do they normally announce an upcoming release?

Autumn. 2021. I think 5.4 is going to be here in early December of this year, though I can see 5.5 being delayed as the musical chairs of stopping and starting lockdowns continues through the colder months in North America and Europe.

Likely about a year from now.

Shadowbringers launched in July 2019 and under normal circumstances, the expansion launches about 2 years after the previous one. Obviously COVID impacted the patch schedule, but we've been informed that they are now back on track for future patches and expansions, but its fair to assume that they'll just be on this track going forward rather than catching up. We had a 6 month delay between 5.2 and 5.3 when we'd normally we'd see about 3 months between them.

So if the expansion would have dropped late June or early July 2021, it's fair now to say that the expansion will be delated to late September or early October. It's possible that the normal lull in content between a 5.55 and 6.0 might be reduced if they're able to make up on time or if they were able to work on those far out projects during the quarantine, but it's safer to expect the same delay will impact all future patches and expansion going forward.
