The aether currents are a pointless exercise. They place every single current in your path of the MSQ as you pass from quest to quest. As long as you press the button they’re always right in your path. Removing them would have zero impact

- No one in the thread has provided any reasoning as to why aether currents should be included in the game. As far as zones and areas that are not meant for the player to access, there are many simple solutions that do not involve removing (or gating) a feature the player has already unlocked.
- The player unlocks flying upon completion of ARR content. This is removed (gated) in subsequent expansions for reasoning unrelated to the main story scenario. It slows progression of the linear story content to a crawl. This in itself is reason to remove the feature. I am not requesting the removal of content, but the removal of the removal of content. Removalception.
- As far as the suggestion to buy (pay for with real world money) a story skip to skip this feature along with the story, I will not address. The forum rules strictly prohibit the discussion of commercial matters and the criticism of SE. As such, I will not comment on the suggestion to pay real world money to skip the arbitrary removal (gating) of a mechanic (flying) unlocked through gameplay in a game with a box price and subscription fee.
- As far as personal attacks go, I will not respond. This is not a troll account. I have not been banned before. Nor have I had any infractions on this forum account nor my in game subscription account.

There is no need to provide reasoning for its inclusion as it is already in the game. But to answer, it's because it allows the unlocking of flying sooner per zone.
There is no need to remove aether currents, just add the ARR method to all the expansions as an alternative option.- The player unlocks flying upon completion of ARR content. It does not allow the unlocking of flying, it disables the already unlocked feature, and forces you to re-enable it.There is no need to provide reasoning for its inclusion as it is already in the game. But to answer, it's because it allows the unlocking of flying sooner per zone.

In a game that constantly changes with updates, there is need to provide reasoning for the inclusion of an arbitrary mechanic when there is demand and logical justification for its removal. The need to provide reasoning also arises when one claims there is a purpose to the system. No one has yet to provide any reasoning. I will concede that aether currents could remain in the game, unlinked to flying, if people want to continue travelling to nodes for no reason. But flying should not be disabled for uknown reasons after it has already been unlocked.
There is need and demand to remove aether currents, or at the very least not disable flying once it is unlocked with the completion of ARR, and keep it unlocked for all expansion content thereafter.

Nope, you've only unlocked flying in ARR zones, not the other zones. It's one thing if zones are seamlessly connected, but they're not and it's very apparent when you move from one zone to another. Flying is not disabled once it's unlocked. You just need to unlock it for each expansion. It does not allow the unlocking of flying, it disables the already unlocked feature, and forces you to re-enable it.

Semantics, but for the sake of civil discussion, I will agree to your verbage.Nope, you've only unlocked flying in ARR zones, not the other zones. Flying should be unlocked for all content upon the completion of ARR content, whether the aether currents remain in the game or not. To have the feature enabled in one batch of content only to have it disabled in the later content that you are forced to linearly play through is quite jarring.

And that's why aether currents exist. It makes it apparent why you don't have flying in future zones to make it not jarring. The reason for not flying is they want you to experience the initial exploration of the zone on the ground and I don't see that changing. So aether current was a solution to this, and now with the ARR revamp, they just need to add the alternative method.Flying should be unlocked for all content upon the completion of ARR content, whether the aether currents remain in the game or not. They are not pointless if they are fun for players. Hunting down the aether currents is one of my favorite activities of playing this game. Isn't the purpose of playing any game to have fun? So how can doing something fun be pointless in a game?
