But yeah most of the early nation missions, and the mission to Jeuno, including the magicite mission, and the expedition to the Northlands which ultimately ended in facing the Shadowlord, all were basically the same regardless of which nation's flag you had in your character sheet. It got ridiculous if you had already completed the Zilart missions without switching country alliegance, and then decided to change, upon getting to the Magicite mission again seeing Kamla'naut on his throne again acting like nothing had happened despite having killed him and his brother earlier, only noting you already had an airship pass.

Hence, FFXI missions were not so different from what we have here in FFXIV, the main difference being the stupid fame requirement (which could be cheesed by trading crystals as you stated) and not having a duty list holding your hand and telling you where to go and what to do (it was left to the player to theoretically find their own way through, but that just resulted in players looking up the info online on websites like Allakhazam, all FFXIV does has taken out the middleman and given the info on screen.), and the FFXIV system is technically superior to FFXI (if you don't like the hand-holding it can be disabled after all in the Config menu).

Either way, thank you for that correction. ^^
I did about 4 characters through to Rank 10 in at least one nation, and all three to rank 10 on my main back in FFXI, so it's kinda hardcoded into me... but even so it's been a long time for me too. I had to consult the FFXIwiki to make sure that the jelly mission was 9-1. My braincase was sure, but my gut wasn't!

FFXI's glamour system is literally just a switch you flick in Config (called 'Style Lock'). It works by you firstly setting all the gear whose appearence you want to use, then opening Config and clicking the 'Style Lock' button to 'On'. A message in the chatbox would then say something like "Style Lock Engaged", and then you just change your gear to whatever you wish and it will still be the appearence you had just locked (enemy abilities that force unequip gear disables the Style Lock however, which was annoying).
Not having experienced it, that sounds better than prisms but worse than the plate/dresser system.

Aren't plates essentially setting up/saving style locks in advance, and without the requirement to be carrying the items?

For Lock Style you can setup the gearsets for it without the armors/weapons being in your current inventory. They can be in a storage area. Glamour plates beat it just a tad on the inventory management level, because they don't consume any inventory. But Lock Style beats Glamour plates, because you can map whole gearsets to instantly lock style to at any time.

Oh that is a tough one....maybe adapting the Side-Story Driven Bounty Hunting from ARC THE LAD II.

How it can translate into FFXIV -

Having special zones with small stories which basically introduce a new set of Duties for the Duty Finder where you can bring your Friends to hunt down Side-Story Marks.

As you progress through the Side-Story Marks you'll fight the most strongest reserved for Elites.

Also these Duty areas will not be linear as it is typical with dungeons, but rather it encourages exploration and piecing together clues from either 4 to 8 people.

So lets say hypothetically there is 10 marks you have to defeat in the Black Shroud Special Zone, and as you progress through the Bounty Hunting Side-Missions you unlock new parts of the special zone until you finally reach the final mark.

When you finally unlock the Elite Mark for that area it bumps up to a equivalent of a Alliance Raid, and requires a bit more puzzle solving (so it would require more than 8 people).

Also having such a system would be a nice alternative to Regular B, A, S, and SS Rank Hunts in the open world because this system is more story driven and requires more engagement.

Finally Each Story Ranked Monster will have a cooldown period just to keep the game balanced -

    B Rank - Unlimited

A Rank - Same Spawn Timer like regular A-Rank creatures in the open world

    S Rank - Twice a Week

SS Rank - Only once a Week.

Also to keep things interesting that the special zones are randomized, so it will always be different each time you enter; like for example a random ruined house is placed elsewhere or a Tower is moved to a different location.

Your Mini-Map will also be disabled, so you need to rely on your senses to make your way around. so keep anything you find to memory, and communicate with people.

    1) housing/dimensions from Rift (instanced, HUGE..the size of an entire ward in
some...CHEAP to purchase/earn!!, enough for every player..in fact up to at least
10/character as I recall for everyone omg. 10000% fun to actually BUILD in.

    2) Ability to dye a primary section and a secondary section of all armor from Rift

    3) The HQ dye from Tera which gives sliding rainbow scale ~ so one can create the
EXACT tone/hue desired. OR// the ability to "learn" all dyes once and be able to use
freely unlimited after that from Rift

    4) The glamor "ease" of WOWS design(minus the fee) and mixed with the ability to
glamor anything from any job of Rift

    5) HIGH HEELS + extremely realistic fabric textures from Tera. as well as their
    stunningly beautiful designs

    6) ffxi ~ all ffxi music tracks to play in current estate orchestrion
~ raising and breeding chocobos not for just racing but to USE as
    a companion/ride!

~ job design: I just preferred it there. The good the bad, I loved it. Would enjoy
all jobs from ffxi and ours here to follow ffxi design, exactly. Jobs in ffxiv feel
    dead.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
