Amazing then, that I have been playing for a decade and not once have I gotten a warning or GM called on me, despite, wait for it... Talking to people... in game! The horror! The ToS in FFXIV are mostly fine, but i think their way of punishing People are a bit too hard in certain aspects, like if someone starts insulting someone can already lead to a ban (just disabling the chat of that Person ingame should be enough imo) which WILL be hold aganist you for the next 3-5 years if anything else should ever happen.
The longer you play this Game and start caring about it, it is only a matter of time until you slip up for the first time and drop the soap.
And before anyone says it:
No it still does not make it fair even if you get issued a warning at first before u get banned next time for language reasons. Calling someone a Casual for example, CAN AND WILL be considered as a insult already which is just silly.
what does that have to do with their argument? what's the point for this dig at them? to show that they're not as good as you because, in your eyes, they can't control themselves? while you're oh so great at it?
that's pretty childish and petty, if you ask me

Wise men speak because the have something to say, fools because they have to say something. - Plato - He saw the ff forums apparently.
They said anyone who gets attached to the game will at some point get banned. I've literally been playing since launch and never had it happen. That's what it has to do with their argument. Neither have any of my friends, or anyone in my static groups over the years.
It's pointless fear-mongering.
I agree, playing since the launch of ARR and I've never been banned or warned, and I'm not exactly a politically correct person, lol. SE needs strict rules in place to allow them to punish people and "scare" people. They said anyone who gets attached to the game will at some point get banned. However, they seem to assess every situation individually and don't go overboard when enforcing the rules.
I haven't been banned or so much as warned either, but I've seen a few people around me get banned under completely ridiculous circumstances, so it's not like it just doesn't happen.
My favorite was when my friend was banned for saying something like "The msq is boring, when can I start raiding" into the Novice Network. It kicked off a huge mud-slinging argument between two other mentors with existing bad blood, and my friend pretty much immediately exited the conversation after he was told he needed to "quit the game if he didn't like the msq". For some reason neither of us will ever understand, the GMs decided to hold him responsible for the argument he inadvertently started, and he was slapped with a 3 day ban. I witnessed the entire thing personally, so it really wasn't one of those "more to the story" cases.
I know people who have been given strikes for kicking blatant trolls from the Novice Network, including people using multiple characters to ban-evade NN kicks.
That case with the private PF that said "Snape kills Legolas in John Wick 4" getting someone a strike/ban was amusing, but ridiculous.
I frequently find myself describing the profanity policy to newer players when I see them swearing in-game, and most normal people seem to think it's completely ridiculous. I have to agree that getting banned for saying "F*ck!" into chat as you fall off of a platform is pretty stupid, particularly because it gets automatically censored, but it is what it is.
Chances of any of this happening are very low though. Someone has to be willing to report you, and the GM that gets assigned the ticket has to be willing to punish you. The stars do align occasionally, but frankly not enough to really worry about. I do, however, try to give people the benefit of the doubt to some extent when they claim they were banned for a stupid reason, pending more details.
this is the only game where I've heard of people getting banned with the sole reason being swear words aimed at nobody or at most, themselvesThey said anyone who gets attached to the game will at some point get banned. that's pretty bad in my eyes, because it makes you wonder why the swear filter even exists when a singular use can get you banned if you're unlucky
It happens in WoW too, at least in extreme cases. It's just more tolerated there I guess. I don't really understand what the big deal is though. Just...don't curse? Seriously, that's all people need to do. lol I curse outside of the game more than I probably should, but putting my filter on while playing an MMO (or going out in public) isn't difficult by any means.this is the only game where I've heard of people getting banned with the sole reason being swear words aimed at nobody or at most, themselves

Same. I swear all the time on Discord with friends or while with certain people at work. Never translated into typing in game tho.It happens in WoW too, at least in extreme cases.
