Maybe stop forcing our idea of 'ethnicity' onto a setting where that has no meaning? Lilja for one, to put that to bed, is definitely a gyaru archetype, she has all the design elements.

I said it earlier in this thread, before that TitanMan alt dragged it up from the depths again, diversity in Eorzea should be regarded through the eyes of the setting, not the real world:

I'm all for some more diversity of cast, but let's have it be in the context of the setting rather than just forcing real world tokenism into things eh? We already know skin color means nothing in the setting. And no, before some smart ass brings it about, I don't care what skin color my above suggestions are.

The hell?? Obviously not. I'd just not want her skintone to be reduced to oh she's gyaru that means it's just a deep tan. Instead of taking what she looks like at face value, that is what we are talking about in this thread isn't it. Characters skin tone, her being gyaru is all of you guys implying she is just an archetype and that's not her real skintone. Which is obviously upsetting because we can assume as much as we want, but saying her skintone is not black is not factual. That is what you implied in your first statement.

At face value.. from a western perspective. This however is a game made by the Japanese. From a Japanese perspective saying that Lilja is a gyaru actually isn't at all that strange and I dare say it would be the 'at face value' thing for the Japanese.

It's a GAME with a thoroughly finished story.
If there is such character in future, great. But if not, that's also fine. I dont see the point to get into forums for such RL stuff, like the other thread with LGBTQ involving characters in a FANTASY game.
But I can say one thing for sure, this isnt your 2nd life to worry about such things... Every player represent themself already as they see fit, that should suffice, imo.
