Annual "Please Remove Doman Distractions from the Achievments" Thread

This is, hands down, not only the hardest orchestrion scroll to obtain, but arguably the hardest achievement in the game.

"Git gud". Got it, heard the playerbase loud and clear. I've watched countless videos on this, read numerous guides, etc. It's nonsense. You can actually see how low of an obtain rate it has on other sites, and I'd imagine that the achievement rate is close to 0% on the NA servers.

After spending who knows how many hours playing this game to have to reset my rank to 1500 a few minutes ago, I'm just exhausted from this.

Which is part of the problem. It's Doman Mahjong (sp?), and what makes this even harder is that four people have to queue into it, and nobody queues because people either have no idea what it is, or they know what it is and know to stay as far away from it as possible. So after hours of queue times, you get into a game, play a game for an hour, RNG takes over, you lose 30 points from your rank, and repeat. So like 2 hours just to have to start all over again.

Oh, and you have to win 4-6 times without any losses.

Today I learned the same guy who designed Feast also designed Doman Mahjong. The punishments are too eerily similar.

Seriously though, at some point they really should either 1) cut their losses and let it die (I'm looking at you Verminion) OR do something to spice up the Mahjong queues -- have an event with more Doman glamours or housing furnishings (and that orchestrion roll) as possible rewards and I guarantee people will join it. Really the formula to get people to do anything in this game is:

    1) Have nice rewards
    2) Make them somewhat attainable (not no-sleep-for-5-days-skybuilders-attainable but do-able -- like Bozja or the Kupo tickets).
    3) Let it run and repeat as necessary.

"We want bunny suits for guys!" -- OK! ✅
"We want Ishgard housing!" -- OK! ✅
"We want Viera!" -- OK! ✅
    "We want Cloud's motorcycle!" -- OK! ✅
"We want Blue Mage!"-- OK! ✅
"We want the ability to earn past Feast rewards!" - HAHA no that's sacred.

i knew almost nothing about mahjong and was able to do it. (I even worked my way up to 1-dan). the in game suggestion tile to play works most of the time. the rest is believing in the heart of the tiles (j/k). but seriously if you're dealt a bad hand it's pretty hard to get back from it. even if you dig yourself into the hole you can reset your progress and try again.

also they're going to add (or have already added?) the short form of the game.

According to lalachievements, the hardest achievement is "The Deeper End IV" which is to completely clear a Thief map dungeon 20 times.

3 characters have earned this worldwide.

The "Tile and Error III" which is "harder" than the one you're mentioning is much "easier."

327 characters have earned this title.

Just have to put more time into I suppose.

Probably wouldn't be so bad if the queues weren't so long at least. I imagine very few NA players bother with Mahjong, which doesn't help. I'd hazard a guess that the queues on the JP servers are much faster. I know I would at least queue for the occasional chess or checkers or hearts or whatever any other more popular western game you want, if it were available in game.

TBF, I suspect most of those 327 are on the JP datacenters.

A friend of mine who plays mahjong seriously in the offline world will queue for it in FFXIV here in NA and literally be stuck in queue for an hour and a half. A friend over on the JP datacenters who also plays mahjong seriously can queue and have a match within 5-10 minutes. This means the friend in the JP datacenters can literally just play more matches, and have more opportunities to get that achievement than my NA friend does.

Meanwhile, the drop rate on the thieves' maps (i.e., "abysmal") is global, and the chance that you will pick the correct door and make it all the way to the lowest level on any one of those drops is also Not Great. So it's not like JP datacenter folks have some advantage on getting that achievement there.

I aim to make my posts engaging and entertaining, even when you might not agree with me. And failing that, I'll just be very, VERY wordy.

This. Doman Mahjong is a very regional based thing, much akin to how NA & JP use DF vs PF.

Whereas Mahjong is extremely dead over here on NA, its has a more bustling community over in JP (Yoshi-P even made a comment about how some players over there seem to be playing it for the majority of their game time in one liveletter.) If you really want that achievement OP, you could always server transfer for a bit. Or try and find a few friends who would be willing to queue up and throw for you (though I haven't played it so I dunno how strong the RNG is in it.)
