Why are there still skills locked behind quests?

I had to waste 30 mins of my life skipping all the DRG cut scenes to unlock Life of the Dragon. Didn't they say that skills were no longer locked behind this garbage?

This is completely unacceptable and a huge waste of our sub time!

It's a holdover from 2.X, the same with pre-job classes, sadly.

i mean i did freak out over life of the dragon specifically, but it really didnt take long to find the quest and do like 10 levels of job quests to unlock it. It did make me think i had a broken dragoon, because the trait is listed but stays greyed out past the level. iirc the skills wouldnt show up on the list if they were hidden in quests beforehand, so...in a way....maybe if was better you found out that way, than never having the ability?

So you can ignore MCH quests in order to be Gunner job, and not forcefully switch to Acrobat job.
