To be fair theming like that is pretty common in design. It doesn't mean there's a deeper connection. Especially because the Netflix series iteration of Dracula, the one you posted, wasn't released till 2017. Heavensward dropped in 2015. Up until that point Castlevania's Dracula has many iterations with the first being a pretty stock standard rip off of Hollywood silver screen era Dracula, and the current more modernized version not taking shape till Symphony of the Night. In fact Dracula himself has a new design almost every game even if Symphony's is the most iconic.
The Netflix version of Dracula was just a dark haired version of the Symphony of the Night Dracula ( I used the Netflix one because the hair color was dark not white/gray). While the suit underneath the cloak is different the facial designs (brow, scowl, look of contempt/anger) along with color designs are more similar then other versions. But enough with the details, I just want to know if the character creator did this intentionally, or even if this is a furtherance of the Teodor character style from FFXI. Just curious since I am a fan of both MMO's and Castlevania.
Nah fam, Edmont isn't a vampire or nightkin. He's also certainly not Teodor from Seekers of Adoulin. No Tartarus walking for Edmont. Just a cozy manor, a dead out of wedlock son, and a cane that's solely for walking. The Netflix version of Dracula was just a dark haired version of the Symphony of the Night Dracula ( I used the Netflix one because the hair color was dark not white/gray). While we're on the subject of FFXI comparisons to FFXIV though... Aymeric's whole name, Aymeric de Borel is a reference to Halver M Borel. You know, the guy who was a count, now he serves the crown. He sends you on the 2-3 mission and such heh.

"I thought that my invincible power would hold the world captive, leaving me in a freedom undisturbed. Thus night and day I worked at the chain with huge fires and cruel hard strokes. When at last the work was done and the links were complete and unbreakable, I found that it held me in its grip." - Rabindranath Tagore
Edmont telling the tale via writing a history book on it is an allusion/reference/call back to Final Fantasy Tactics which was also told by a witness to a horrible war named Orran, who then was persecuted to death and his papers buried by the church until it was recovered by a more open minded generation much much later.
The implication of doing it this way was to highlight how Ishgard buried their history of the Dragonsong war to the point that the more open minded generation (assisted by the WOL) has to rediscover the true history in order to gain redemption.
The nuance of existential fear of "The Church" lying about history is an often over looked theme of Heavensward.
Uh, no. They're nothing alike.
Source: I've read Stoker's Dracula and a lot of biographical material about the actual Tepes family.
Late for the party.
You calling "Tepes Family" just shows that you know 0 about the actual Vlad.
I don't think Edmont narrating the story in Heavensward is necessarily a reference to anything. Its just a narrative framing device, one the series has technically used since at least FF10. Though it was used more consistently in FF12.
I also don't think he's Dracula. Just a brunette with mutton chops. lol
I found a reddit thread that thinks he resembles a portrayal of the Count of Monte Cristo. https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...t_de_fortemps/
Nevermind that, in both of these cases, the characters in question are from books and thus look however the description and your imagination make them look.
