Skysteel Tool Upgrades

I feel that the turn in process to upgrade a tool is awkward. You need to have the job set for the quest, but the tool being upgraded needs to be in your inventory, so I go to the market board and find a cheap tool for the job in question to equip during the process. Is there a better way to do this?

not really. you can't be on any job/class without some kind of MH equipped. the system just won't let you because when you are giving up the previous version of the skysteel tool for the new one you are effectively destroying the old one for the new one.

I don't know why SE chose to program the quest this way. It's not like we can make the items needed to progress the quest using a different class.

My suggestion would be go to the Arms vendor in one of the ARR starting cities and buy a set of Weathered tools if you're not already using Aesthete tools. They're less than 100 gil each so if you don't have room in chocobo saddlebags or elsewhere to store them, it's no real loss to discard them once you're finished with this set of upgrades then buy again when we get a new upgrade path in 5.4x.

Same with our job weapons if we're doing the Resistance upgrades - get the weathered weapons for anything that starts as a class. You can go to the Calamity Salvager to get weapons for the jobs added in HW/SB/ShB for 1000 gil each.

Or alternatively, just swap out to a weapon you keep around for glam, or keep a drop from a dungeon that you won't use anyway around. Either was is free.

Right, but not every one keeps an extra weapon for every job. The suggestion was for those who don't already have a second.

I have a issue with fisher relic. I can swallow how unusually rng fishing is in this game but when you got a bait connected to a special fish you need hq you need to make sure the system works.

I cant tell you how many times fish got away in the fishing hole in yanxia where I need to catch 60 hq of this one fish to do new step 1 for this part of fishing relic.

Let's also not couple in the fact I feel like I'm addicted to hi-cordials because I need to use patience and precision hooksett. Which I might add only gives me a 1 in 6 chance to even catch the fish I need hq. Even if I use something like surface slap its reduced to 1 in 4 but then my gp is less then before.

Again dont mind having to sit and fish but at least make sure the area you pick is suitable for the tier stats they are meant for.

I wasn't getting those messages when I worked on it for this character (haven't started it on my other characters yet). It could be your gathering stat is at the minimum needed to catch the fish and increasing it will have fewer missed catches.

Don't use Patience. Use Patience II. GP cost might be higher but it also lasts longer and almost completely removes the possibility of getting NQ instead of HQ. If I didn't have enough GP to reuse Patience II and my Hi-Cordials were still on CD, I simply waited until I could use it again rather than waste the bait.

Fishing holes frequently have fish requiring different stat levels. A level 70 fisher can't even use the Skyball bait so the presence of a level 80 fish that can only be caught with the level 80 bait at Plum Springs won't cause problems for them.

Patience: 200 GPs 60 seconds. 3 1/3 GP / second.

Patience II: 560 GPs 145 seconds. 3.9 GP / second.

160 GPs and 25 seconds more. Only 76 actual GPs more.

If you are losing fish there try mushroom saute. 76 gathering HQ. Dirt cheap on my server, I think they are a custom delivery quest reward.
