SkySteel GIG.
Do I dare dream?
no... I'd much rather have a bait box offhand, to hold the bait.
Well,I'd certainly love a baitbox too. But this white item lvl 61 ilvl 180 gig really is making me twitch with never getting replaced. lol
Right? Why is the gig even an item? They could have just rolled the extra stats into all the 61+ rods and called it a day. Instead we're stuck looking at this white, i180 item forever.
Probably to replicate the need for an offhand for MIN/BOT not to mention all the player demand for a FSH offhand prior to Stormblood.
If you don't have an offhand equipped as a miner, you can't mine from rock outcroppings. If you don't have an offhand equipped as a botanist, you can't harvest from leafy vegetation. So we end up with if you don't have a gig equipped as a fisher, you can't go gather from the spearfishing nodes.
Technically they could remove all the gathering offhands and all the crafting offhands, either rolling those stats into the primarly tools or adjusting gathering/crafting requirements not to need the additional stats.
Now they seem to be reworking fishing a bit to make some of the stats have more value for things like Double Hook, they could give the gig more value than just the GP and create different ones for players to obtain.

It doesn't have to have better stats than the white i180 gig, but a purple one with a glowy effect just for glamour reasons would be a nice addition.
Of course then people will complain that you are grinding for an useless offhand tool, but whatever, you can't please everybody and if they don't want to grind for the glowy one then they can stick to the old i180 without losing any stats...
Adding upgrades to the gig just makes it more expensive to be a fisher. It won't actually benefit you since stats are fungible and SE balances fishing around the lack of stats from the off-hand.
