But my only option for helping them included one-shotting the enemies for them, which is no fun for them at all, and drastically reducing the experience they get, just by being in a party with them.

Having the ability to level sync down in normal quest areas without being in an instance, dungeon, or FATE, would drastically improve an end-game players' ability to help lower level players without negative consequences, and greatly improve many new players' experience of the game.

(This would also help with content like Eureka where having higher elemental level players in your party drops your experience from the thousands and tens of thousands, to the tens and hundreds per kill. Even if they're not attacking the enemies at all, or are only a couple of levels above you.)

To sum up, my suggestion is simply this:
Allow players the option of syncing down to a party members' level to aid them with on-level content, and rather than ruining the experience by making them feel like they're getting "carried", they will ADD to the experience by being; Extra DPS. A tank. A healer. Someone who can assist them on-level, without making them feel like a burden while you one-shot enemies for them.

And thank you to anyone who spends their time reading this. I appreciate even that much consideration. :P
I get this. Demolishing everything makes the lowbie feel useless and they don't learn anything, and the old "out of party" trick doesn't help that. There is a whole social aspect that the devs don't seem to get. I tried grouping with someone a few times, but as soon as someone has a solo duty you gotta break up the party. RIFT has what they call mentoring and sidekicking. You could manually lower your level at almost any time in the world, and lowbies could match higher level players in their party. SWTOR allowed you to share almost any quest instance, including most class phases.
