Question about Garlond Goggles

So, I bought the game the other day from the Square Enix online store. They added two items to my cart: the game for 19.99 and Garlond Goggles for 0.00. After completing my purchase, I got codes for both items.

Here's where my problem begins:

At first, I didn't see the code for the Goggles. So, I registered FFXIV, created my account and did all of the usual stuff. Then, I went into the game, created a character and leveled to about level 5.

That's when I realized that I'd forgotten about the Goggles, and rechecked my email. I then registered the Goggles, which are on my account as an "account service". However, the item didn't show up in my inventory. Is it because I had already created a character before registering the code? Do I have to restart my character to get them?

Yes you do. It's in the fine print associated with those items. They'll only show up when you create a new character. I know that's a real bummer, but if you want your special goggles, you'll have to recreate your character and level up again.

Well that sucks. I've made it pretty far since then (at least, time-wise), so I can't really find it in myself to start over. I don't think I'll miss the 3% exp boost too much.

The bonus items on sign up are not worth the paper the codes are printed on... the bonuses should be made to be collectible AFTER sign up u_u;

Well that sucks. I've made it pretty far since then (at least, time-wise)

Level 11 is achievable in under an hour nowadays, even faster with that 3% exp boost.
And if some kind soul casts Fire on a bunch of chigoes outside ul'dah which you claimed, you get there within a few minutes.
