DirectX 11 Crash

[Trug]

This issue has been a problem since 5.3 for me, and has gotten far worse since the latest patch came out a couple of days ago. Happens very frequently in areas where large numbers of people are gathered, but can also happen when I'm just sitting idle in an area by myself.

I've already tried the full gamut of solutions to this issue suggested in posts here and on reddit/other forums to include:

- Turning off all other programs
- Installing FFXIV on the C drive
- Reinstalling FFXIV
- Checking the "Disable Fullscreen Optimizations" option in the executable
- Disabling all overclocking
- Forcing my graphics card to run at less than 90 FPS
- Forcing FFXIV to run at reduced framerates using the in-game settings
- Clean install of graphics drivers
- Clean install of Windows

I've monitored my system during these crashes with MSI Afterburner running as well, and there are no overheating issues. The GPU is maxed when running FFXIV, but this doesn't seem to cause problems in other games.

Have any changes happened to the device before the issue began? We would also like to recommend several other troubleshooting steps:

1) Disable any additional programs that could cause interference with the game itself including chat programs. Also, remove any custom configurations made using graphics driver-level programs
2) Remove any mods or injectors from the game or system
3) Remove any unnecessary USB or audio devices (controllers, headphones, flash drives etc.)

No changes were made to my system, no. Same hardware, and normal software updates to Windows and other device drivers.

I've tried those other recommendations as well, and still have the DirectX 11 errors occur randomly. To be specific, I've run the game with only FFXIV and Windows running, no other applications. I don't use any mods, and I've tried with just mouse and keyboard connected, no other USB devices.

So, possibly found a workaround for the time being, although I've had "fixes" before that turned out not to work after a day or so.

I underclocked my GPU by 15 mHz using MSI Afterburner. After doing that, my game has remained stable all day in normal gameplay, to include crowded, graphically busy areas like the Southern Front which were previously reliably causing the DirectX 11 error messages and subsequent crashes.

I'll continue to monitor the performance for a few days. And even if it does resolve the issue for me, I believe that this should still be treated as a problem by SE that should be fixed. There is something inherently wrong with the game if some users are forced to underclock their GPU in order to keep the program up and running. Just to be clear, it was not overclocked before, I am now running the GPU at 15 mHz below the standard specs.

I'll reply to this post again either if the DirectX 11 crashes occur again, or it remains stable for a couple of days with heavy use, whichever comes first.

Update: Issue persists, despite the attempted fix. Had the same DirectX 11 error just now in Bozja. The 15MHz underclock did seem to make the crashes less frequent, however.

I am having the exact same issue since last night's update. Game crashes with "A fatal DirectX error has occurred.(11000002)" Tried literally everything. Scoured the internet for answers, and nothing has solved my issue. I even restored to factory settings and reinstalled the game. Tried: Running in windowed borderless, underclocking, limiting frame rate in graphics control panel, all drivers are up to date, disabled all start-up apps and rebooted, and also made sure all overlays were off. This is driving me insane. Please help!

Sorry for the delay, I took a break from playing due to the crashes and wasn't able to log into the forums.

To answer, I just tested it again yesterday in windowed, borderless windowed, and fullscreen in Bozja. Crashed within minutes of entering the instance regardless of which screen mode I was in. All other settings remained unchanged.

We would like to recommend performing a Clean Boot on the desktop to see if the crashing continues. This will prevent any programs from starting up when the starting when the computer first boots up. This can end up having adverse effects on the game when these programs are running in the background. To perform a clean boot for Windows 10: Open the task manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC) and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything here and restart the PC.
