How to Fix Housing while keeping Neighborhoods

    Housing Lottery
    • Totally remove placard purchasing/transfers
    • Weekly lottery in each district
    • Medium and Large restricted to FCs
    • Small open to all who meet requirements (GC Rank/MSQ)
    • One per account
    • Increase plot costs

This is the fairest way I can think of for making housing available to all, and shouldn't be too much trouble to implement. No more click grinding or bots. Plot costs should probably be increased to a very large amount gil like it was at 2.0 launch. Let me know what you guys think as I'm fairly new to looking for housing.

    Thanks!

Totally remove placard purchasing/transfers - 100% agree. The hours of clicking is ridiculous. I think when a house becomes available a 24hr timer should start. You could click the placard (as long as you have sufficient gil) and agree to buy. Anyone can do this within the 24 hr period. At the end of the 24 hrs, the house is randomly assigned to one of the players that agreed to purchase. This would solve the clicking all day problem.

Weekly lottery in each district - Not sure what this is?

Medium and Large restricted to FCs - I think larges should definitely be restricted to fc's only. Mediums and smalls should be accessible to both individuals and fc's. IMO

One per account - Yes, yes, and hell yes

    Increase plot costs - Yes

Good ideas! Definitely something that needs to be brainstormed here on the forums and at Square.

Get rid of FC housing. All the house flippers abuse the FC house system by making shell FCs. Give the FC leader and officers an option to convert his house to house fc members. If you have an FC house, you don't need an additional personal house. If you sell your fc or transfer fc, the house doesn't go with it, it reverts to the person's personal house.

    No thank you.

We have enough RNG stuff in-game that people continue to scream about. Nobody wants any more. Plus gating personal-housing to small only would piss off even more people.

    • Things I don't like is walking in a house and seeing a house mostly empty, but for a summon bell. Every time it makes me ask "Why?!? It might be their right to or not, but still bothers me.
    • People with multiple houses of course. Such a selfish act.
    • People that falsely claim plots as an FC, when obvious they are not. Make the FC's house require a higher number of active members and rank. To hold that total of active members from month to month.
    • I say free up those houses to improve availability and fix those obvious loopholes.

    All of this...nope.
    1. Turn on auto-demolition.
    2. 1 plot for Server for all characters, not for data center.

They could hold lotteries kind of like what we have for the Cactpot Board. If plots become open during the weekly reset, they would go to the lottery to determine the next owner. Players could go to a housing district, select an open plot, and basically purchase a lottery ticket for the cost of the plot. This would be returned to the player if they do not win.

    Even better...

    - Restrict housing districts to Free Companies.
    - Create player housing private instances. (Just like in FFXI)

    Player housing private instances:
    Based on players achievements/Gil.

The more gil and or achievements a player has, the bigger they can expand their house.

This creates not only a gil sink but also a use for player achievement points.

Basically, the more the player plays or has gil, the more they can expand their private house.
The private house will start the size if the inn room, then increase to the size of a mansion.

    Size comparison steps:
    -Inn Room
    -Apartment
    -Mog Garden expansion
    -Small cottage
    -Medium House
    -Large Mansion

Give gil and achievement points a purpose and give players unlimited housing. FFXI is 2340982034 years old and has a bigger and better housing system than FFXIV. Get with the times.

    Edit:
    Some examples

-The more gil the player has, the larger their house.
-The more achievement points the player has, the more they can expand the housing item limit, and gardening options in the Mog Garden.

This not only fixes the entire mess created by allowing players to share housing with Free Companies, but also keeps Yoshida to his word that player housing would be cheaper than Free Company housing,

    and more importantly....

This fixes the dead empty housing districts. With districts being restricted to Free Companies, there would be much more player traffic in these zones, making them feel more lively.

    Edit:
Oh this would also fix the need for Alt FC's and house flipping.
Especially if you allow alts to share the same Private instance house.

Buuuuuuuuuuuut that would be the sensible thing to do, and this is FFXIV .... which is anything but! lol

This would incentivize players who were "grandfathered" into owning multiple plots, if you restrict the players who currently own a house, from purchasing a private instanced house.

In which case, I do believe I literally solved every single problem with housing using only features that already exist in FFXIV except I added the mog garden, which if FFXI can do it, FFXIV can.
Unless of course FFXIV's servers are smaller and older than FFXI's???

Where the fix? None of what you listed fixes anything.

Players need a way to interface with the game to indicate the plot they want to own. Remove placards and you've removed the ability to purchase altogether. No one gets anything. Nothing is fixed.

A lottery doesn't guarantee that a player who meets the requirements will get a house or even that anyone will (see below). Nothing is fixed.

Restricting mediums and larges to FCs means more players creating shell FCs so they can own one. Watch all the shell FCs for solo players now owning the mediums and larges while legitimate FCs can't get any housing at all because they're blocked from purchasing smalls. Nothing is fixed.

There aren't enough smalls for every player in the game. Nothing is fixed.

Taking away the excess houses from multiple house owners is a drop in the bucket compared to unmet demand. Nothing is fixed.

Increased plot costs makes it harder for players, especially those with only a few hours a week to play, to obtain a house while players with hundreds of millions of gil or lots of real life disposable income to spend aren't impacted in any measurable way. Nothing is fixed.

Before you can suggest any fixes, you need to identify the real problem The real problem is the lack of a dynamic supply able to meet the demands of a player base that is continuing to grow (which is pretty rare in a MMO that's 7+ years old) but is growing at variable rates on different worlds in different regions. We're stuck with a static supply that is the same for every world despite population imbalances and that does not automatically grow as the player base grows.

If you want to fix the problem, you need to create a dynamic supply system. Other MMOs have it - it's instanced housing. It's worked very successfully for them. Players aren't limited to one per account, or one per world, or one per character. Players can get as many houses as they want.

Let's stop suggesting that SE waste their time making torn bandages that don't fix anything and start requesting they use their time to create a real solution.

That's not how lotteries work. With a lottery, participants pick numbers. Then a winning number is independently picked. If no participant picked the winning number, no one wins.

You really want to see plots sit vacant for weeks because no one manages to pick the winning number?

If you want plot ownership based on RNG, you should suggest a raffle where participants are given numbered tickets and a winner is drawn from the tickets given out.

    It still doesn't fix anything.
