About the grind for the new Skysung tools

It's a pretty big grind as everyone expected.

The new "oddly specific" items, just like previously, are purchased with yellow scrips. There are two upgrades to the Dragonsung tools to turn them into Skysung tools.
Step 1 requires crafting with 18 oddly specific items to obtain 90 goobiegoo, and
Step 2 requires crafting with 21 oddly specific items (the same kind of oddly specific items as those in step 1) to obtain 105 goobiegoo.

Meanwhile, I do appreciate how they gradually increase the difficulty of each oddly specific item along the path of the quest line.

    1st step: 3943 diff, 18262 qual, 80 dur
    2nd step: 4343 diff, 23395 qual, 70 dur
    3rd step (1st step this patch): 4543 diff, 43590 qual, 70 dur
    4th step (2nd step this patch): 4943 diff, 51726 qual, 70 dur

51726 for the second stage of upgrade in this patch seems like a reasonable amount. Surely you can macro it, but it's not like you can randomly mash buttons and still get it done. You do need a good amount of stats and a good macro if you're going from zero quality to max. HQ mats do help a lot, and that's fine... it makes HQ mats more useful anyway, and even stimulated the market a bit on these.

I certainly hope it'll continue to become harder in the next few steps! I think it'll have a positive effect on the economy.

The Skysung tools are i500. The new mainhand tools have 6 CP, which I think is a nice addition. This is the first time that we ever have an untradeable mainhand tool with CP.

If you were like me, who had only melded a 6 CP materia onto the Aesthete mainhand tools before, then the Skysung is a lot stronger, and the Aesthete mainhand is now practically obsolete... Might as well retrieve the materia, and can even sell it if you haven't bonded with it yet.

If you had previously pentamelded the Aesthete, then perhaps your i490 Aesthete will have more control... so you may choose to keep the Aesthete for your grind on expert recipes.

The appearances of these new Skysung tools are... bland and boring... they have no glow, they're tiny, they're attached to your waist. I am not impressed. They're dyeable, but that's about it.

Btw, as for the Oddly Specific items, it seems totally pointless to make them tradeable on the market. There has been nearly zero transactions... These items do not stimulate the market at all. Everyone is just grinding yellow scrips for them anyway. I feel they might as well have made them untradeable...

Was disappointed to see the Skysung tools look basically the same as the Dragonsong versions. Maybe a bit of extra filigree here, a glowing gem in the handle there; but considering these are supposed to be the crafter versions of combat relics where's the pazazz? How about a glow or some cool effects when you're actually crafting. Feeling a little dull atm.

Can you still put these in the Armoire? I have pentamelded Aesthete that I won't replace and no room for another 11 tools, but it'd be nice to have them prepared in advance for 5.4.

I use very cheap melds, enough to just need one or two HQ materials, and I had no problem to max this last step. I have to say is the first time I'm disappointed since for me crafting my 490hq tool felt more satisfactory. I'm guessing the last step will be 4 stars, at worst will mean having to craft more stuff with lower collectability, and will finally glow.

The Skysung Tools can't be placed in the Armoire, though they will go into the Glamour Dresser if you have room there.

Part of me wants to go after this but I am doing my resistance weapon. Told my spouse I would craft her a full set of battle gear when the 4 star recipes come so she can focus on leveling her crafters and gathers. With everything else I am doing ya, going to be passing on upgrading my skysung tool

    Nice post Caimie

Ah my bad, meant Glamour Dresser, cheers

Wasn't sure if the tools going in so far was only because they're first stage, and the upgraded ones wouldn't qualify. Guess I'll start on that to fill in spare time.

I don't see any real reason to expect it to have much of an effect on the economy. Maybe people will buy some more crafted gear or crafting materia, but the economy is only going to improve by making things more exclusive again and you won't need the relic to comfortably craft four star stuff.

Well, Vampire Cup Vine and Vampire Vine Sap's prices did go up from around 400 gil to 9000 gil on patch day, and were around 3K for awhile. Today it's around 1400, and sales are still going pretty strong. I did earn a few million gil from just selling these...

Titancopper Ore went up from 250 gil to around 800 gil, and is still staying there today.

That sort of spike is a common feature of all patches that introduce new things. I wouldn't really consider it an improvement to the economy.
