It's a pretty big grind as everyone expected.
The new "oddly specific" items, just like previously, are purchased with yellow scrips. There are two upgrades to the Dragonsung tools to turn them into Skysung tools.
Step 1 requires crafting with 18 oddly specific items to obtain 90 goobiegoo, and
Step 2 requires crafting with 21 oddly specific items (the same kind of oddly specific items as those in step 1) to obtain 105 goobiegoo.
Meanwhile, I do appreciate how they gradually increase the difficulty of each oddly specific item along the path of the quest line.
1st step: 3943 diff, 18262 qual, 80 dur
2nd step: 4343 diff, 23395 qual, 70 dur
3rd step (1st step this patch): 4543 diff, 43590 qual, 70 dur
4th step (2nd step this patch): 4943 diff, 51726 qual, 70 dur
51726 for the second stage of upgrade in this patch seems like a reasonable amount. Surely you can macro it, but it's not like you can randomly mash buttons and still get it done. You do need a good amount of stats and a good macro if you're going from zero quality to max. HQ mats do help a lot, and that's fine... it makes HQ mats more useful anyway, and even stimulated the market a bit on these.
I certainly hope it'll continue to become harder in the next few steps! I think it'll have a positive effect on the economy.
The Skysung tools are i500. The new mainhand tools have 6 CP, which I think is a nice addition. This is the first time that we ever have an untradeable mainhand tool with CP.
If you were like me, who had only melded a 6 CP materia onto the Aesthete mainhand tools before, then the Skysung is a lot stronger, and the Aesthete mainhand is now practically obsolete... Might as well retrieve the materia, and can even sell it if you haven't bonded with it yet.
If you had previously pentamelded the Aesthete, then perhaps your i490 Aesthete will have more control... so you may choose to keep the Aesthete for your grind on expert recipes.
The appearances of these new Skysung tools are... bland and boring... they have no glow, they're tiny, they're attached to your waist. I am not impressed. They're dyeable, but that's about it.
Btw, as for the Oddly Specific items, it seems totally pointless to make them tradeable on the market. There has been nearly zero transactions... These items do not stimulate the market at all. Everyone is just grinding yellow scrips for them anyway. I feel they might as well have made them untradeable...
