What they should have done was disable relocation of plots for 24 hours.
That would have stopped trolls and those that rush to get a plot and relocate, so it induced timers.
But again it was still fare from enough.
When I went to log in. on the time of scheduled reopening (give or take what difference there is on my clock and SE's server clocks) there was more in queue to get online then there was even plots up for grab

What they should have done is removed the relocation timer, because randomly blocking people from swapping houses is a wretched bandaid designed to discourage bot trading when this problem is trivially solved by autoscaling. What they should have done was disable relocation of plots for 24 hours.

There should be a relocation restriction timers for such matters. Like, if you just got a house, no matter due relocation or not, you can't relocate it for, say, 48 hours.
It's not a perfect solution, but for the system we have it's a workable crutch. I mean, if there's timers for buying, should be timers for relocation too.
And ofc there should be a foolproof for that like "you sure you wanna relocate, you won't be able to do so again in 48 hours". Just cuz not everyone read Lodestone about housing restrictions. >_>

What? Why? Why in the hell should there be restriction timers around anything? Calling for lockdown timers on housing is sour grapes from people who didn't get a house (which sucks, I feel you), but the solution is fixing this trash excuse for a housing system, not adding arbitrary punishments to the existing one that make it an even more arcane, impenetrable mess if you're not already a homeowner.

That could've prevented people from forcing timers on new wards, that's why.
I agree, timers sucks either way, and in no way I'm defending its existance in the first place. Rework of the entire system was a necessity for a long time, still is. I just thought about something that could've help even a little in some way with the thing we already have.

The question is, how would that have helped with the bum rush on the new wards? The terrible, stupid way the entire housing system works encourages getting any plot at all on lock because it allows you to bypass this ridiculous timer system. Instead of adding a relocation timer, remove the vacate timer. Having a random length, invisible timer on freshly relinquished properties only encourages a circlejerk of current homeowners bogarting the system through no real fault of their own, because they get to skip past the barrier to entry by merit of already owning a house. Just...remove the timer entirely. Then nobody can force timers on new wards, because there isn't one.
I'm all for not adding extra hoops for people to jump through to block botting. The problem with the housing system is the entirely artificial restriction on supply, not the desire to move to another house.
I believe many quickly bought a plot and then saw something they liked better and relocated, not realizing this would happen. I think SE could have at least disabled the timer situation, so if someone relocated it immediately became available again - at least in the new wards.
I'm now sitting in my new front yard and can't even enjoy it as I watch 20 people around the a placquard at the home next to me clicking.
"The worst foe lies within the self."

I logged in immediately the servers went up.
200 in the queue before me.
I got in pretty fast.
Game loaded me up in MIST where I could look at the wards etc.
I got to Ward 22.
Totally empty. No players. No bought plots. I could have bought the whole ward lol.
When I got to the plot that I wanted it said 'housing action locked'.
And stayed like that.
And stayed like that.
And stayed like that as other players arrived.
And stayed like that as another player arrived and told me he had already bought it.
And stayed like that as other plots around me were bought.
And then the guy who said he had bought it, his FC materialised on the plot as a relocation.
I had nothing tell me it was bought - it appeared unsought until his FC magically appeared.
There is something that is not right here, surely?
Not only is this housing system flawed I believe it also to be rigged somehow.
I am on a console. I suspect that those using PC etc have a faster experience and therefore get ahead of players on console etc. And that is just plain WRONG.

150% rigged.
