    Add additional companions for "Companion" tab.

    This is a suggestion that would make me love the game more.

    I generally play solo and while the chocobo is a good companion I can't help but feel we are missing out on another great companion. This has probably been suggested before, but please let me have a retainer as a companion I would love to fight along side my main retainer and would make my solo play more enjoyable.

    I'd like to be able to swap the chocobo out for other mounts of similar size. Things like the cavalry drake or the dire wolf or the black chocobo.

    In all seriousness though your suggestion is great, though I can't imagine they'd let the retainer just act like whatever it's job is, and not just because of FF14's shitty shitty AI.
    Like, they couldn't even take the squadron AI and let it waltz into the field with you. It'd just break QQ

    As much as I'd appreciate nearly anything else other than an ostrichicken for a battle companion, this got asked once or twice some time ago and the excus-response was more or less "it's too hard to create another leveling system for more companions. Not planning on it."

    Sounds good to me. They don't even really need to tweak the AI at all, just have the squadron member use the Chocobo AI of it's associated role. Sure they might not act exactly like they do in the dungeons but it's not like they really do much in the dungeons to begin with. Using the chocobo companion AI might actually be a step for them.

    The 1.0 version of the game did have a companion you choose and would then follow your path (adventures).
    You could choose this companion NPC from almost any Job (Gladiator, Lancer, Archer, Conjurer, and Thaumaturge) and either sex (some limitations) of the races.
    That system was not carried over in its original form from 1.0 into ARR.
    The Chocobo was the replacement, which was mainly done to eliminate one of the primary issues with 1.0 Path Companions, their limited functionality.
    Your companion was only useful with the job you had chosen for them, as in Lancer/Archer/Thaumaturge = DPS only, Gladiator = Tank only, Conjurer = Healer only....
    A fully ranked up Chocobo is all three.

    That said, it was kinda fun with the different personalities and such.

    The main issue with the Path Companion though was that it was meant to be a means of playing through the main scenario solo, even as a Disciple of the Hand or Land (the Path Companion could technically do the fighting for you). Needless to say, that didn't work quite as well as they had hoped.

    I still miss my Path Companion Imarah though and her thinly-veiled come-ons to my character and would love to have the Path Companions return in leiu of the Chocobo Companion, but alas, I think she is gone forever.

    This would probably be an easy option to incorporate, given Trusts are already a thing.

    I wouldn't mind being able to fight alongside the cat from Monster Hunter either. The Palico, I think?
