    No more caves ! :P

    I would like* to see more mystic/fantasy like zone designs. No more empty deserts, empty plains, empty labyrinth forests, no more caves !

    I want to see more mystical ruins/buildings !





    I want to see more mystical zones in the sky !




    I want to see more otherworldly zones !






    Zone design elements that i would like to see:
    • Multi level zones. Tower like. If possible make it where you can see large chunks of the map. Otherwise it doesnt feel like a tower like place**.
    • Keeps higher lvl zones explorable but zone it through some access granting quests/missions. I think it help drive people to see something in front of them they cannot grasp yet.
    • Machinery, elevators, energy, levers, laZers!(pewpew), etc. I loved the whole concept of the crystal line in XI.
    • Inner zone fast travel mechanisms (teleport pads, boats, etc. I mean not limited to cities only.

    Which was your favorite XI zone ?

    * This is entirely my opinions and wishes. I dont want an exact replica of XI, but only the core design concepts that were so awesome in XI à la XIV. Sky/Sea in 1080p anyone ??
    ** For those of you who played Portal 2, were you not flabergasted by the immensity of the aperture complex when reaching the old test spheres in the mines ? I want to get that same feeling in XIV.

    2.0 It has to be.

    The reason we have to have caves is because we're limited in the amount of unique things we can have in the game. That's why Cutter's Cry looks like Copperbell Ant Farm, it's why TotoRak looks liek Mun-Tuy Cellars and why the Darkhold and Shposhae look eerily deja vu...

    We'll get the crystal tower. Just talk to Eric in Uldah and ask him about the Silvertear Falls. But not until 2.0.

    Yeah, it's so unfortunate. I don't know at which point during development they figured massive copy+paste landscapes would be an improvement over FFXI, but it definitely was not the way to go.

    Most definitely, I really miss the uniqueness of FFXI~ So many fun to look at zones (excusing the old graphics!)

    Thanks for sharing this! I just talked to Erik and the story about the crystal tower/dragon was so cool =D I wonder if it is going to come up out of the ground after the meteor hits.

    Yeah, I'm missing volcanoes, icy mountains and more detailed mines. Underwater environments would be awesome as well.
