Are all of these people just new to the genre or something? I've played many mmorpg games in my life and this one got me scratching my head sometime.
I personally don't see much difference in skill among the multiple mmos I have played. The only difference I have seen is that in XIV duty roulette players tend to be more chilled out than WoW players. I play on EU servers whenever possible. Perhaps it is different in other regions.

In my fc I was asking if anyone wanted to do maps and someone replied that they were broke and couldn't bring their own map. In which I replied jokingly no broke boys, bring your own maps! Keep in mind I just did maps to with this same guy the day before and he made bank. I found out later everyone started accusing me of homophobia in the fc because saying no broke boys means no homosexuals to them lol. Anyways, like 35 people left our FC over it because the lead refused to boot me cause he thought it was just ridiculous. That means 35 people sympathized with such a insane and stupid reason. The absolute worst part in all of this was that before the whole exodus of that fc and the homophobia accusations, I decided to put the few people trying to troll me all the time on my black list. I found out later everyone who accused me of it are the same people I had black listed and had no idea they were even talking to me in fc chat. They thought I was talking to them I guess. Oh there was also the incident where we were joking about lactose intolerance which ended in the guy that was the main problem in this story to leave the fc. Another fc member said they don't tolerate lactose intolerant. Someone said that's lactose intolerance bigotry. The black listed guy (same guy who can't afford maps for map groups) made it about himself and got offended over that dumb joke. Tried to get that guy who was joking booted from fc too.

So, yes, I find that the players in this game are kinda..... sensitive... not changing my mind!!! Lol
Ah yes, the well known "I'm not a racist/bigot/homophobe/transphobe/misogynist, it was *just* a joke". Well guess what? The people who have been on the receiving end of racism/bigotry/homophobia/transphobia/misogyny don't like your "jokes". People are hurt by such things and a show of tolerance and support is to not "joke" about it. If you really offend without intent, then a sincere and heartfelt apology will sort out the misunderstanding. I have seen such "jokes", been on the receiving end, and trust me it brings up all my defence mechanisms or triggers the hell out of me, because guess what? There is some trauma involved. Being a kind human being that doesn't laugh at other people and accepts them as they are, isn't that hard.

It isn't really SE's fault that we are this way tho... Until western players on the whole start caring about how they affect others and start taking pride in their performance, pugging is gonna be nightmarish on our servers. I'll just hang out with my static and avoid people at large until the day that individualism stops spoiling things...

So you have to understand this is only your side of the story. But from where I stand, if 35 people all think you are a douchebag, it's harder for me to discount their opinions.

Serious question to anyone who can answer:

Is "broke boys" an offensive term to LGBTQ+ people? If it is it's certainly the first time I have come across it.

Honestly, I don't know. Never heard the term before and it may be slang related to specific countries or areas. A quick google, didn't reveal anything.

I just shared this drama because there are swathes of people in this game that are honestly like this with extreme sensitivity. You can be perfectly minding your own business and if someone interprets something you said as anti whatever they will attack you, intentions be damned. Going by the state of social media im not very surprised people are popping up like this in video games like this. Thanks for the replies everyone. Stay safe
I won't comment (and haven't assumed anything) on the dynamics between you and the people who were offended by your words. It's not my place and I'll have to take you on your word that you had no intention of offending. However, your assumption of oversensitivity is somewhat wrong. I want to remind you that the reason we LGBTQ+ people celebrate our queereness with prides every year, is because of the oppression we are facing and the outright rejection in everyday lives. There are countries where being a homosexual is punishable by death. Two women posted a picture of their wedding on Twitter and within the first five comments was one that said "shame on you, that's a sin". In my own country we had to fight long and hard to stop homosexuality being punishable by jail (Alan Turing is a great example) and even into the 80s the outright conservatism rejected LGBTQ+ people and refused to protect their rights. And that's an ongoing fight, transgender people are facing persecution and their rights eroded even in countries that are supposed to be progressive.

So forgive us for over-reacting but we have good reasons for doing so. As I said before, a heartfelt apology if you never meant to offend would go a long way to soothe the bad blood but that's just my own conjecture and perhaps my own rather naive views.

I think the whole point was that the FC leader tended to shirk shared responsibility or do maps without having a map to share and then felt an "easy route" out of the issue was to exploit said issue, as a deflection, granting several virtue points and also somewhat "triggering" said sensitive crowd, to attack this guy, for no reason personally. Wasnt there, but it seems legit, and practical. Easy crowd to rile up, easy way out of shirking responsibility hope nonola found a more reality based FC, than this space age stuff More and more im becoming a fan of 1,x/2.0 Gaius.

Ehhhhhh...please don't judge the entire community based on your experience with one fc. I personally have never seen a large group get as easily offended as the people you spoke about, and I have been playing the game since HW.

Just to add to the "sensitive playerbase" drama; I was called toxic because I was giving out advice about Tsukuyomi's Pain trial.

From what I know (correct me if I'm wrong) but the Celestial Cloth can't be desynthed from the Tsukuyomi weapon drops. Had someone said their friend was able to do so, and I replied with "I don't think so, done this so many times, desynthed various weapons, etc and my desynth level is above 300, and googled that on various sites" and they replied saying "I can't trust the internet, I trust my friend even though I never seen it for myself, stop being toxic."

I just sort of...idk, was jaw-dropped in awe that THAT was considered toxic behavior. I was trying to be nice in fact, so they didn't waste their time.

To each their own, I guess?

But alas, that was ONE interaction; I can't say if the playerbase is sensitive or not, just adding that I had that experience, since that player was "sensitive" to my advice.
