Are all of these people just new to the genre or something? I've played many mmorpg games in my life and this one got me scratching my head sometime.
I've played alot of mmorpgs, from Tibia, EQ, FFXI, and even cancelled ones like wildstar. Each player base is different from one another and not all are the same. Some are extremely toxic due to the focus on the competitive scene (WoW) while others are extremely laxed.

FFXIV is more about the mix of both with a tad bit more focus on the non-competitive nature in the genre unlike certain products. Which attracts both Final Fantasy players and non-gamers alike. It's because of this that you will see alot of players ingame being against the type of criticism you'd normally see in products like WoW or Everquest since most of the players here are either from a Single Player Product or they simply didn't play a Video Game before.

As for me though I don't believe I fall into either category as I'm not really a FF fan but i'm still a gamer through and through. So the rest will just be my stance on "being criticized" in mmorpgs and team based entertainment products in general and my stance is this:
Why should I attack or harshly criticize another player ingame? We are both just playing a entertainment product at the end of the day and not everyone is perfect, we all have are good and bad days. If they'd wish for help or advise on their rotation, gear, or glamour then they would ask for such but in most cases of "criticism" in these types of entertainment products it just amounts to nothing but verbally assaulting the other player for X or Y reason which just muddies the water for all parties involved, even witnesses to it.

This at the end of the day is a Video Game, not a job nor a career nor should it be treated as such. Video games are designed to have Fun with after all, not to build your entire life and career around it.
