Lets talk about the FFXIV player base..

Is it just me or the players here are kinda sensitive and also not that good? Been playing the game since last fall and what I am noticing is that the players playing the game are not that good and they get easily butthurt when being criticized? Are all of these people just new to the genre or something? I've played many mmorpg games in my life and this one got me scratching my head sometime.

I didn't know this was just a FFXIV playerbase problem.

I dunno. I can't think of many other games with communities that outright refuse to get better or do the minimum the game allows you to do. That sorta selfishness on FFXIV's level is a unique bar that no other team games have been able to reach thus far.

I guess the rest of the world is getting along perfectly then and can handle any criticism on any and all topics.

    Insert surprised Pikachu face here.

Since you're apparently unaware, games and their communities can have both positive and negative aspects. Just because other games have other problems elsewhere does not mean that FFXIV's problems are suddenly negated.

This brings up another good point: Many in this community will defend the game from any criticism, regardless of how valid or invalid that criticism is. How can a game and its community grow if misguided players jump down the throats of anyone who dares speak an ill word? It's probably up there in the top 10 major issues the game and its community has.

Edit: I just realized you were referring to the real world. Most people can, in fact, handle criticism and talks in a lot of topics. Please get out more and stop living on the internet.

You're joking right? I've never played a team based game that didn't involve blaming someone else nearly every match besides Overwatch.

Anyone watching can see it's often the person doing the blaming that isn't trying to get better and isn't trying to learn.

Perhaps you've misunderstood. I'm not talking about blame. I'm talking about refusal to get better or carry one's weight. That sort of thing is seen as selfish or as trolling in most other games. From other MMOs, to competitive team games, to non-competitive team games, the severity of the issue in FFXIV is unique.

But please also refer to my most recent post in regards to many defending the game and the community from criticism. You've helped me re-enforce the point, so thank you for that. You both have either employed sarcasm or tried to attack a point I did not make. Wonder if we'll get a third before page 2.

This is a lot of people's first MMO. I know it was mine. Especially people following the Final Fantasy franchise (as in standalone games), FFXIV is a very different animal.

Unfortunately there is little in-game training save for very basic first time lessons (Smiths, Guildhests) and these are not exactly pointed out to new players and are easily missable.

The game largely depends on the player base itself to lead the blind and most can't be bothered while the rest refuse to be led. I feel like an improved mentor system or even incentives for teaching other players (that doesn't involved random ques into synced Extremes content that is no longer relevant) would help a little but as far as I can tell no one has come up with a viable solution.
