How much Gathering Stat does a retainer need to get the maximum yield for 5.3?

My Botanist and Mining retainer both have a gathering stat of 2085 currently, but I have recently upgraded my own gathering gear to the Aesthete set and wanted to see if my hand-me-downs might be useful to the retainers.

If anyone happens to know the answer, I'd be ever so grateful if you could post it here!

It's similar to the new way desynth works. There is a base amount of gathering that has to be met, what's required to run the venture, and that gives you a base set of parameters for that particular one. As their gathering increases, the chances of getting more items or higher quality versions of said items increases. Be advised that for rare drops, like minions, though the chances of getting them might increase, it's not as significant as the quantity and quality of materials. In short, yes, upgrading your gathering retainers gear is beneficial, but you don't have to go out of your way to do it, so long as you reach the minimum gathering requirements to perform the venture. Giving them hand-me-downs is perfectly viable.

I'm not sure what the exact cutoff is. Right now I've got 2147 on my BTN/MIN mining retainers and 1742 on my FSH retainers. That's getting me max yield on everything except level 80 Unspoiled and Folklore items (not worth upgrading their gear for those). If you haven't added Guerdon materia to their current gear, putting some on should get you to max yield quickly.

Is there somewhere I can see what the "max yield" is for things? Right now on my Botanist retainer, for Sandalwood Sap (the highest level item on the list) it brings back 5 of them. I think that might be the max yield for it but I am unsure. It could be 7 since I see that the Lemonette yield is 7 currently which is a bit earlier in the list.

It is indeed 7 max for sandalwood sap. It has a slightly higher base skill needed than lemonette so getting the max needs a bit more too.

Just to follow up for those who might be seeking the same info. After playing gear/materia tetris, I have come to the conclusion that:

MIN/BOT retainers need to 2185 gathering to get max yield on the highest end items currently.
FSH retainers need 1750 gathering to get max yield on the highest end items currently.
